My car is a '98 S202 250TD estate. Where is the diagnostic connector, please and how many pins does it have? I am guessing that you need a multiplexer to read all the lines into a bus reader. Am I on the right lines?

You havd a 38 pin connector under the bonnet. Large round plastic cover. Yes,you need special equipment. Carsoft is a cheap option. Look on ebay.
