.........cuz my benz is BUSTED
I've been looking in on this great site for the last few years now, pretty much reading the threads from start to finish regardless of model, just outta general interest really and I know you guys love your motors but right now it aint luuuurve im feeling with mine..... in fact im tempted to get the lump hammer out
On my second new benz now, started out in 01 with an evolution c200 sport coupe.... looked great (i thought at the time.... how wrong i was hahaha) handled like an absolute dream, not the quickest... but quick enough..... had a few niggles with it, a few trips to fix the roof, fuel guage developed a mind of its own... but the supreme, king of all monumental failures wasnt when i had it, ooooh no, traded it into the local stealer for a new E200 elegance, pebble beige leather (W211) when within 3 days he rang to inform me while out test driving the car with potential punter the gearbox (manual) pretty much fell off right in the middle of a roundabout.... i felt so sorry for him...not
So now i got this E200k (manual too...and dont say it, i know)... aircon packed in after 6 months (took em 2 weeks to fix), warranty is out by bout a month when a balljoint goes south (drivers side, so it wasnt the potholes) warranty out by a month so i had to fix it myself...and beating the bejaysus outta your new benz with a lump hammer is NOT a good feeling. But this morning, out the door, 6am, turn the key...... wheeze, woosh, wobble..... thought i was in a trabant.
Popped the lid, had a quick look in... like it would make a difference, got the laptop out, googled like a maniac for the best part of an hour and decided it might be the MAS (all fingers and toes crossed at this point), its firing on all four and sounds to me like the old fashioned motors used to if you fiddled with the dizzy advancing and retarding... or suspect petrol maybe (any port in a storm at this point) So, i ripped out the MAS and unlike any of the threads i've read so far...its a Siemens part dunno if this is the code but would A 271 094 02 48 make any sense? looks totally different to any of the examples i've seen here, cleaned it up with a cotton bud and some tape head cleaner... did i do right? (fingers crossed) ill stick it back in again tomorrow and see what happens, if there is a bit of an improvement ill buy a new one, if its 100% i wont bother.... either way its going in the paper next week and to be honest i think ill got for a 98ish old old model s-class, way i see it now, if it packed up i would have less to lose than a years depreciation on my current e-class.... which here in Ireland now costs around, in Euro, 60,000 or in ST£45,000 and i can pick up a mint '98 S500 for bout 8000 Euro...... and from my experience, and what i've read here, reliability would probably be less of an issue with the better built older benz.
