Is there any need or point for av on an android handset?

:dk:

I would say yes, same as there is a need to have it on apple products too.

I use Lookout on my device - seems to run without much of a payload and allows remote tracking and remote wipe of handset should I ever mislay it.

I think the main risk is malicious apps that do things which cost you money (e.g. send premium texts without your knowledge) or steal data from your phone.

If you are careful about what you install it's probably low risk but I'd install some security software to be on the safe side.

I'm using AVG (free) at the moment, seems OK. Also has tracking/remote wipe etc.

Also has tracking/remote wipe etc.

Completely forgot about remote track and wipe. That's a really good argument for having security software.
