Oh yes I've had that lecture lol.

It can get away with having no bonnet star but the big star grille simply doesn't suit that era of Mercedes. In the same sense every new Mercedes bar the S-Class has a big star grille, even though I prefer the standard grille, it does seem strange seeing them without.

The trick is to not try and make an "old" Mercedes look like a "new" one

Yeah that was never my intentions I just wanted to get rid of the chrome and change it up a bit but I made the mistake of already selling my original grille before the new star one arrived as soon as I put it on I hated it but painted bits on it to match colour of car and die it down a bit as it's so in your face and as time has went on just got used to it but yeah definitely looks better with the original.

That looks a great buy, the avantgarde grill will finish it off nicely. Love the colour too!

With regards to key, I found out from MB in Rayleigh the other week they no longer make keyless entry and go keys. Absolutely fuming with that :(

Wow that is a bit annoying!

Luckily this isn't key-less so I should hopefully be able to get one.

Please change the grill, I'm begging :D I can't stand it

Grille's been done to death but agree with big stars on any Merc of that vintage not working.

Black grille seems to suit it though.

I love Cubanite silver. If it had to be silver, that's the silver it would be for me.

Looks standard ride height to me.

Nice example.

Cheers guys!

Grill will be sorted lol. I do like the black, but I am going to go with an OE grill.

Re the ride height, would it be safe to lower a little? It's on 275 30 19's at the rear.

Yeah definitely depending on wheel offset you can get these low my wheels are 275 35 19 and sit under the arch nicely no rubbing so a 30 will be even better.

Cheers, I'll have to try and find out what the offset is.

I guess given the cost of the RENNtech and Brabus options that I will need to find someone with STAR?

Yeah mines not airmatic so was easy to lower, springs on front links on the rear at msl so I never looked around for someone with star but I guess that's your best option I'm sure someone here has had it done either that or just bin the air bags and put some coilovers on it lol.

The W211 is definitely one Mercedes that looks 100% better with the Avantgarde grille, the big star looks terrible.

Congrats on the car by the way, a bit of tweaking and you've got a stunner!

Cheers! The grill is going lol. Anyone on here want it? haha.

I need to make a few changes, wheel refurb being chief amongst them. A few little issues to take care of.

The plastic over part on the boot (number plate is attached to it - how is this attached? Mine is bowed out so I think it has a missing nut or something.

Thanks.

Did some maintenance on the car last night - used some GT85 spray on the wing mirrors (less noisy now) and on the runners in the panoramic roof, just to keep it all nicely free.

The R230 SL from the same era had the big star grille as standard so some cars can and do suit it.

Yeah they look nice, I agree though the 211 in my opinion if done right I don't think it's horrendous mine don't look to bad to me, but it will definitely look better with the stock grille, if your a "Mercedes enthusiast" it's frowned upon, but in the world outside of Mercedes, it's not that bad I've never had someone come up to me and say wow mate that's ugly lol, but like I said I will be putting the oem grille on but gloss black of course so don't get all emotional now people lol.

I take it you refer to the boot lid insert behind the number plate? It's a bit of a pain to remove as you will have to take the panelling on the back of the lid off first. From memory there's a fastener bang in the middle that holds it as well a pair of nuts in the far corners. Once you drop the panelling it will become obvious.

Modding is very individual so I would take comments with a grain of salt. Many on here mod their cars so it's wrong to think only purists make MBClub. That CL inspired grille however... very few of both camps like it. Personally I don't think it's too bad. It could be made better but it's not the end of the world.

Yes it is. It has a gap near where the arrow is pointing to in the image attached.

If you intend visiting MSL for any work/dyno etc, there is RMK on the same trading estate who will make a key for you. Take your V5 and some ID.
Failing that its main dealer who will bend you over for around £230 for a key. Again, V5 and ID.

Mercedes key specialists- Need new Mercedes keys? Replacementmercedeskeys.co.uk

Cheers, I've sent them a message. Planning to visit MSL on 12th August.

Stick it on eBay.

Someone with no taste will buy it as they did before!

LOL!
