Guess what I have just bought! For the use of my good lady who has finally seen the error of her ways and will move from the Fiat Brava she currently has (does the job - but yawn!!) K-reg (1993) in almandine red with mushroom leather

Ian Walker was good enough to come and help me with the result that pretty good price was achieved. And it may be even better than first thought - on checking the VIN database it mentions "sports chassis with 8-hole light alloy rims" which Ian suspects may be sportline supension?

Immediate issues that need sorting are window electrics on the offside, water pump needs replacing and needs new offside front wing at some stage. Not sure what ettiquette is re putting down price I paid. What do you reckon I got it for?
Ian is a sterling bloke - give him your business!! Have a nana Ian :bannana:

Could be a good game for a little bit this! 110Kmiles, MBSH to 72K, indy afterwards. Suppose it could be classed as Fair condition but I think Ian would be best qualified to comment on that. Your observations Ian?

Sounds like a good buy, W124  , and Ian sure knows his stuff...:)
I reckon about £2000 - £2500 would be good price maybe a bit more mileage, history??
So how far out am I??

Actually I reckon bout £1200, I was getting confused with coupe prices..

I'd guess at about £850, going on the prices on autotrader, and the condition as fair.

Nice cars though - I'd buy one myself if it would fit in the garage!

Well managed to knock this Trader down to a mind boggling £575. :D The engine is very sweet, no ticks, knocks and oil pressure when hot at 3 bar. The interior will need a damn good clean out to bring it back to "Nice". Mechanically apart from the water pump I could find no issues. Yes the drivers door window mech needs sorting but that is a minor negative. When I saw 300_24valve on the boot lid I was a little suspicious but opening the bonnet soon resolved my fears. Very clean engine which has not been cleaned for sale. A few rust crazes but nothing that would put a person off at what Gollom paid. (Should have bought it for myself  )

You cant post a guess after the answer! ........although you still got it wrong ;)

Sounds like a bargain. Its amazing what metal you can get for a few hundred quid these days, and I thought my 97 W202 was a bargain at £1900!

Ian

Just daydreaming of what your wife would have said if you had bought it

"But it was a bargain! The South of France will still be there next year. Honest!"

'Methinks you would be WEARING it! lol!

Yeah, well I was closest, cos Ian probably demanded £1,000 in a years supply of Ol Speckled Hen! I know I would. Ha ha ha .

Bribed him with a bottle of St. Emilion (2004) and a jar of my homemade Italian Sauce.

VIN database it mentions "sports chassis with 8-hole light alloy rims" which Ian suspects may be sportline supension?
Indeed it is ....
Fancy posting the rest of the VIN check details?
Come on, let's see what you bought.

Nice car and well worth spoiling.

How about a few 'before' pictures, then when it is all sorted a few 'after' shots.

Happy motoring,
John

Here ya go! Comments appreciated (but be nice children, be nice!!)

Nice, Not quite a full Sportline. Has the suspension, wheels, steering rack and steering wheel but not the interior.
The 300E-24 is a great car and what a bargain! Just need some pics ;)

Yup, will do some "before" and "after" pictures. Only thing missing on it that we would have liked is air-con. Ah well! Maybe one of those B&Q units across the back seat? :D

Anybody know of a resource online for manauls etc.? Would be interesting to find out what the original audio would have been for instance and also to know the performance figures.

Thanks all!

Steve (Gollom is a looooong story!)

What's wrong with the waterpump ? Are there any tell tale signs when they are on their last legs apart from obvious leaks ?

adam

This one was pumping water onto the ground which was a good indicator! :)

I was fortunate in having the talented Mr. Walker with me - my mechanical skills are on a par with this Governments tax-reduction ability....

Steve

This pump in particular is streaming water out of the jacket where it meets the block. It has been my experience that when this happens its new pump time as getting them off usually an angle grinder job on the allen screws that hold it in position. For what a new item costs its more economical than trying to remove it without damage and repairing. (time wise)
