I have an annoying knock from the rear n/s suspension especially when the boot is loaded.
I have checked all the rubber bushes and changed the rose joint in the hub carrier (it was shot). I can find no movement in any of the suspension parts and the subframe mounts look fine with no cracking.
Is there a definitive test to see if the subframe mounts are worn?
It sounds like someone hits the rear floor of the car with a hammer when I go over a speed hump. If there is no load in the back it very rarely occurs but with my dogs in the boot it happens every time.
Car has done 82000 miles.
Any pointers gratefully accepted as it is really peeing me off.

Shocks? They take a good hiding and will show no signs of physical wear

Might sound daft, but it's not a wayward cable banging on the voluminous cavity of the petrol tank or spare wheel well is it? Makes quite a "boom" when something taps on those.

Perhaps brim the tank to rue out noises in that area, and any wayward sender parts or anything?

Thanks for the replies.
I have spent far too much time poking, prodding and generally levering things to try and find the source.
I have ordered a new pair of OEM shocks and bushes so hopefully that will cure it.
I had a similar issue on my last S203 and new shocks cured it.
