Hi all,
I am starting to hate my E220 CDI - w211. Seriously thinking of getting rid of it.
Anyway, I was travelling and suddenly the car went into limp home mode. I re-started and the car was fine for a few miles - limp home again. Got the codes checked and its the inlet port shutoff motor. Do I have to have to take the manifold off to service? Are the flaps serviceable?
I've read a few posts regarding this - but i'm unable to figure out if its the motor itself or the flaps jamming. The fault is stored not current and every re-start the car is fine all be it for a few miles.
Any help will be appreciated.

OK people - I ended up taking off the manifold (bloody hell of a job) - Just see the state of the mixing chamber and the sludge that came out. The flaps were not exact jammed but the movement was not really smooth as well. Cleaning now - will put everything back and report.

Have you taken any photos. They are always useful.

Update: photos added after my post

If you're getting sludge building up does that indicate something wrong with the breather pipes?

I know very little of these engines, so am only guessing.

sorry they did not upload at first - yukkk!

Issue persists. At times the car will work ok for 10-30 mins other times the car will go into limp home quickly. Usually if I keep high revs it will work fine.
Question: anyone know when exactly or what revs etc is when the motor actually shuts the flaps? Cuz my theory is that the motor is not working the car drives fine until the flaps need to be shut off. The motor does not respond throwing a code which takes it to limp home. For my knowledge I'd like to know why the flaps are there and when are they used.

When you start the engine -> flaps goes shut.
They start to get open at 2000rpm.
They are totally open 2300rpm.
They are shut idling -> 2000rpm.

They can be deactivated from program, after that they are always open...or shut, as you like.

Or you can just free the stepmotors arm and tie the flaps open.
After that, arm can sway free -> no limp mode.

It is almost same for the engine, are the flaps open or shut.
The other pipe flows so poorly in stock engine.
You won´t realize the difference.

thank you tuikku - much appreciated.
Can they have create a long starting problem as well? Right now the motor is not working at the flaps are stuck open. My car suffers from long starts and poor off the line acceleraltion (i.e. I press the pedal and wait for the car to move) - high revs its absolutely fine.

I have just changed my manifold and there is no way I could have cleaned it and put it back as one flap had come adrift at the top and a couple of other were on the way
I you go to all the trouble of removing it you might as well replace it

I have noticed that you say the engine is a cdi, but you logo says it is a 200k, which is it??

Hi tuikku,
I have a W203 C220 CDI.
Am getting the same problem as described by uhayat. As long as am driving the car, no limp mode but it only happens when i stop the car, that is the car is running less than 1000rpm.
You stated that : They can be deactivated from program, after that they are always open...or shut, as you like.
How do you do this?
My indie has suggested that i change the manifold but it costs some bucks, so an idea on how to deactivate this will greatly help.
Your help is much appreciated,
Jay

Stored code from the car is:
P0105-128 B28 (Pressure Sensor) Plausibility.
Says Component B28 is defective.
Anyone knows where this is found? Could not find in my engine even on Star Finder.
Thanks
