Another Aussie Dead: Peter Brock (Racing legend)

It certainly highlights the huge dangers\risks that rally drivers are exposed to when compared to the more cosseted race track drivers.

I remember watching him race in the Bathurst before the days of having a safety car!! Unbelieveable racing event.

Right on, was it in big Ford Falcon's? Was he one of the first to have an in-car camera? Bathurst and safety car do not equate.

Not quite sure, but I think it was him that was actually chatting to the commentator whilst roaring over the mountain.

The interviewer asked him if it was distracting, to actually talk whilst racing?

His reply was a classic.

"Nah, you journo's have the IQ of a cabbage, I can say anything and you'll believe it!!!!":D He was saying this whilst driving flat out, going round a blind bend :D :D

Was it Bathurst where an ex Formula 1 driver actually had a fatal heart attack during the race?

Sorry to go off topic!!:o :o

Great quote.
I remember it was Peter Brock and a great rival. One driving a Ford Falcon and the other a Holden Commodore, riveting stuff.
I just checked about the F1 driver. It was Denny Hulme, ex F1 World Champion apparently had a heart attack driving an M3 in the Bathurst race. As Wikepedia said "the first Formula One champion to die of natural causes". Well, that's a twist on natural causes.

Thats really sad...what a legend....watching him at Bathurst will always be in the memory banks.

Whats even sadder is that I watched him last weekend at Goodwood, racing a crappy old 1950/60's Holden.

I met Peter a couple of times - nice guy, a true Ozzie legend.

"This is Holden land. You can hear the Fords rusting from here"

So sad thats 2 aussie icons in one week!!!!.
I remember watching one of Peters races at the track when I was a kid
