hi all

didnt want to hijack anyone elses thread, so here we go!

I am replacing the drivers seat (actually just the base pad as the frame looks a 'mare). I bought a s/h complete seat and when i've whipped the squab and back pad off it loks like they are heated, and my car hasnt got heated seats.

any thoughts as to how I could get this heater working cost effectively? the seat has come from a '96 sl (actually a lhd 129 but thats another story), and mine is a '91 sl300-24 (129).

cheers :)

Double check it is in fact a heated seat pad and not the seat occupancy sensor pad which it may be as its from lhd car:).
Thats if yours or the donor has the sensor.

good point ! the squab and the backrest both have a loom coming from them, does the occupancy sensor connect to both parts of the seat ?

Iirc sensor is only in the bottom pad and occupants weight activates it, so if you have wires out of both pads just ignore me:D

As for doing it on the cheap the easiest way has got to be just a fused supply to the seat and a small discrete switch to run the elements make sure its ign live so you cant leave it on check if cig lighter is ign live and if so use this to trip the relay.

Before you do any of that check the elements are actually any good with a multimeter or just power them up and see what happens.

hmmm

took seat squab to d:class in Woking today, irrepairable :( needs retrim at the best part of £200, not good.

Wish I'd just taken the original seat bits there, would have been a bit more but without the £225 outlay on the 2nd hand "great condition seat" grrr

I guess at least I could say that the heating had cost £225..........

Still p*ssed off though......lol.

A word to the wise.......129's, being a bit rare, are bl**dy expensive to take on as a project, bearing in mind the relative lack of s/h parts available......
