Another IT Meltdown..

IT is getting more complex by the second. Every nano second the the stress and strains put on IT systems is growing.
Where I worked, a local authority, almost without fail, on Mondays the systems would be slow, very slow or totally messed up. This was almost always due to "updates " over the weekend.

Our government spent millions of our money some years ago in order to get England's NHS Trust systems to talk to each other. They miserably failed.

I have many hospital appointments and for whatever reason they are spread between two Trusts. As these are GP referral, one Trust cannot see info from the other.

One of our children is the head of cyber security firm that has offices worldwide, it is an American company. They have so far resisted cyber attacks and failed blackmail attempts. He was telling me its only a matter of time before their systems are impregnated by cyber attacks. They've had a couple of events in recent years but this was down to mistakes by humans when upgrading systems, these were quickly resolved as private co's cant afford downtime

Even NASA was hacked

This glitch may have been a mistake/etc but it could have also been a cyber attack. We will never know.

So armageden is here, FFS how can the world allow one company (Microsoft) run the the show.

So from what I can gather Microsoft didn't do what they preach by doing a backup before installing the update 🤣🤣 and the security update was corrupted and attacked itself 🤣🤣🤣, gets even better, if you get a blue death it has to be fixed manually 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 FFS

Apparently, it was caused by an failed update of a security software called Crowdstrike.

Every update to core software involves a risk. In the past we've had fights with IT departments about dogmatically mandated updates that have knocked out internal networks. They just won't listen. Automated updates are a boon from the point of view of keeping software up to date against threats but they are also a point of failure that nobody wants to worry about.

I refer to these issues as "Security as a denial of Service".

I think it's more to do with those Millennium b*ggers.
Ya know, the ones that throw your pc into an update that you must leave powered on but can't use the flippin' thing. Right in the middle of important work your doing.
Or those that want you counting busses while there's a queue waiting for you to pay.
Or the one's that need you to confirm you're not a robot, like they are.

Glad to see this site's still working - does it use old technology?

I never knew anything about it until I read this thread!!....no problems at work yesterday....and we use Swift a lot.
