Another IT Meltdown..

So armageden is here, FFS how can the world allow one company (Microsoft) run the the show.
Wasn't Microsoft this time. It was a security update by Crowdstrike. Who have paid the price - $16B off their value! Maybe it is a good time to buy their shares - they'll probably go up again?

Guess this reinforces the wisdom of keeping a stash of cash.
But if you try spending it everyone asks where you got it from.
Keep a fair amount and it can be confiscated, until you prove it was lawfully gained.

I only keep a bit of it for car parks nowadays. But that's becoming outdated too.

Are Russia and China effected, asking for a friend 😇
So from Russia.
Microsoft was banned in Russia, so as they replaced MS with their own. So this hasn't affected them.
China, dunno, but traditionally they would be using a copy.

V possibly due to the MS update, US citizens en route from Delhi to San Fran' had to land at Krasnoyarsk (it's in Siberia for those with American style geographical knowledge, and Siberia is part of Russia). Due to sanctions they have no way to access funds, all cards being blocked there. Likely they have a further day to depend on the generosity of the Siberians.

If they can keep their gobs shut they should be spared a Gulag visit.

It's not a MS update.

It's a third party enterprise security product used by some large organisations that runs on their MS systems.

and the result is different how?

All your eggs in one basket? We were told many many times as kids and business not to!

Not here. More and more folk are paying in cash. I was challenged once by my bank as to why I wanted to withdraw €3500 in cash, which I do a couple of times each year to pay for car maintenance etc. I said it's my my money which I lend to you and you earn interest on it; you do not have the right to determine how I spend it. After a bit of their blustering I said I will close my account and withdraw all my money now, please. No problem since.

The current maximum cash withdrawal and payment for anything in cash is limited in France to €10,000 per transaction but there is talk of that being reduced to €1,000. I wonder why.

Mrs Swotty insists we keep a cash "reserve" - which we don't advertise, of course - and our neighbours told us (when tipsy) that they keep a wad buried in their garden, which is always well kept - I must have dug it over for them 3 or 4 times now. 😊

It seems likely that Starmer will go for means testing the state pension, counting both income and bank balance. No point in leaving it to chance and we intend to keep the balance sheet much leaner from here on in.

Croudstrike are current sponsors of the Mercedes F1 team.
Have Mercedes had to stop everything during practice at Hungary to update all their software? At least they probably have first call on the Cloudstrike guy who knows how to do it.

IT is getting more complex by the second. Every nano second the the stress and strains put on IT systems is growing.
Where I worked, a local authority, almost without fail, on Mondays the systems would be slow, very slow or totally messed up. This was almost always due to "updates " over the weekend.

Our government spent millions of our money some years ago in order to get England's NHS Trust systems to talk to each other. They miserably failed.
They spent several billions.

With Fujitsu!
