Just to add another twist to this.
I saw a new Audi the other day, approaching me head-on and wanting to turn right, across my path. As it waited in the middle of the road for me to pass, I noticed that the DRL was flashing in opposition to the indicator next to it.
As the DRLs on Audis are part of the all-in-one lamp cluster, they do this presumably because the DRLs are in such close proximity to the indicators, and being quite bright, would render the indicator otherwise invisible.
