Just wanted to say hello

I am soon to be the proud owner of my very first Mercedes... I get it on Sunday next week!!! :bannana:

So, having no previous Mercedes experience, and spending many hours looking at different forums, it seems to me that this one is the most friendly, so I thought I'd join and say Hello!

My new car is a 2001 SLK Auto with really low miles 39,000 and a MB service history from a very nice helpful dealer. It's a 2300 Kompressor, and its beautiful. Since I was a little lad I dreamed of owning a Merecedes, and now 45 years along, I've got one!

To be honest, I'm not sure if there are things I should check on it or get done. I live in Devon, and would appreciate any tips or advice on these cars, and there is a specialist in the south west who I should go to to get my car looked after.

The only thing Ive bought up to now is a GIANT pack of Autoglym polishing things! :)
Best regards
Chris

Good evening Captain Slow. Welcome to the forum and welcome to your dream. Being from the frozen north west, sorry, cannot help you with a specialist down yonder.

Thats a pretty robust motor you have picked there. Others will be along to tell you what to watch out for. Probably not a lot.

Dont polish it away:devil: - Get out there and enjoy it:thumb::D.

Hi welcome to the forum :thumb:
Terry

Hey congrats on the MB!

MB History is good to have - of course, in your case its more checking up on whether maintenance was done on time-elapsed basis, since its unlikely the schedule needed following on mileage.

I hope someone can find you a reliable indie close to you - do search the forum to see if someone has already listed a name close by.

With this low a mileage maybe you need to run her in. Be gentle, get her purring nice before you get her to growl and I'm sure she'll be great!

Enjoy!

Welcome from a relatively new member.
Captain Slow should be my name,

Yours,

Stephen Low

Welcome to the forum Chris. :thumb:

Congrats on the purchase, it sounds like a lovely low mileage example.

Please post some pics. :)

Thanks so much for such a friendly welcome. I will try and put some pictures of my beautiful new car up once I get it home. May need the assistance more computer knowledge than me to do.. maybe my 15 year old daughter will help me.

I'm sure I made a good choice... fingers are crossed anyway ... the car dealer is going to give it a full service before I collect and he's using geunie parts. They werent much more expensive than pattern parts , with the exception of the fuel filter which was over £60.00! Still at least its done and I'll know where I am with it. Theres even a warranty that should cover any things that might go wrong, so that gives me a little peace of mind. I test drove 3 in total before finding my car. One with 100,000 miles on the clock still felt superb. So hopefuly my car will last me a long time.

Any garage recomendations would be appreciated... and any things that I should get done or check for also would be good to know.
Thanks again
Chris

Hi and welcome Chris

Welcome to the forum.
It's good to see a new member with a future classic.

OK, heres an update... second purchase now made... an original 2001 SLK brochure from Ebay! I think Ive gone spend crazy! Even this purchase was daunting, there was one for an SLK and one for an SLK roadster? I picked SLK... :)

Later today I think I might try and put a couple of pictures up that I took of my car at the dealers...may need the help of a child and the instructions from Jazz to do this... now wheres my daughter when I need her?

Hi Jazz- Thanks, I did look and the info is very helpful. I will be having a go at putting some pictures on here a little later. I just have to get them of my phone first.

Cheers,
Chris
