Hi Guys

I've a 1990 W129 300SL - I'm having my wheels refurbed and noticed this morning when I was removing the front wheels that the corrugated plastic sleeving around the shock absorbers has become "shredded" over the summer. It all clean around there but while I've got the wheels off, I'd like to replace it - is it a complicated job?

or can it be done by a technical idiot like myself?

Cheers

You should really change them as they stop grit from damaging the shocks and quite straight forward to do

Thanks Malcolm

I've had a look at the link and I think I understand it. Do you need any special tools or is a straightforward socket set job?

I am 90% sure that nothing special is needed as they are not part of the springs. other people change the shocks OK with nothing special.

Easy to do. Jack the car up. Place on axle stands. Undo the shock absorber from the top (centre bolt). Remove three bolts round the rubber bush. Pull down piston and remove bush from under the wheel arch. Attach new sleeve to bush, fit over piston and replace everything in reverse order. 15 min job.

15 min job.

Blimey, would take me longer than that to get the car onto axle stands and the wheels off! You're not an ex-F1 mechanic by any chance? :D
