Hello

noticed recently a slight knock on full lock and this evening peared under the arch and took a picture as I couldn't quite see...

Oh look another broken spring. It had the othe side changed at Mercedes however I have just had a quote of £150 fitted from an indy is this the norm?

Its a S211 E320cdi estate

Thanks in advance

The question has to be asked - why weren't both springs replaced together at 'Mercedes'? £150 seems reasonable to me.

Hello it was until 1000 miles ago my dads car and collected from new from the factory, always been to Mercedes for the servicing however they did not suggest or recommend they were done as a pair at the time the first one was done.

Saying that even the Indy havn't recommended doing both so maybe that's not unusual?

We always do both. if one goes the other is well on its way.

^ what do you charge? Is the price about right. Seems the first spring went at approx 85k miles and it's currently on 128k so it's done ok really :)

It is about one hours labour per spring. The spring is around £50 ish

I've just had a spring replaced on my W209 CLK. Only went in for tracking check but they found broken spring (which was missed by my usual indie even though I asked them to check pull to left!)

The garage, who I respect as engineers have had to replace the strut and top mounting kit too - they said it wouldn't come apart. So instead of a £50 spring plus 1 hour labour I have a bill for £500. Is this "stuck strut" a regular problem, or is it possible I have paid for something that the garage didn't know how to cope with?

A rear spring in my 05 W211 E320 failed (the first one at 96,000 miles) with a loud bang earlier this week. Local dealer has just replaced at a cost of £200. It took longer than the anticipated one hour as they had to drill out the bolt before the spring could be replaced. All back up and running.
