2x E350 CDI Sport W212s... for a bit
Hey,

My diamond cut wheels are a bit of a mess (not my doing!), so I'm thinking of getting them redone in a couple of months, powder coated in either just silver, or ideally a light shadow chrome for a bit more sparkle (trying to compensate for the loss from losing the diamond cut), a bit like an E39 M5. My 59 plate W212 E350 is palladium silver... which is basically gunmetal grey, so going too dark with the wheels will look a bit boy racer and I prefer an OEM look.

Not interested in redoing the diamond cut for durability but mainly for cost... can barely justify the cost of redoing them at all for a purely cosmetic/OCD reason...!

Ideally in South Wales, West/SW London, or around the Surrey/Guildford/Leatherhead area.

Oh, and how much did they set you back?

Pics and comments welcome!

Cheers!

Ed

Just had mine done in shadow chrome rather than diamond cut. Actually prefer the look mow.

Other side of the country to you, so place is not good, but cost wise they were £285 for the 4 wheels (tyres removed, new valves and refitting / balancing included).

Little bit further round from Surrey but Wheelworx in Crawley are good. Had several sets of wheels done there.

Another vote for Wheelworks. Used them many times and always excellent. They also offer same day service - arrive 0800, pick up loan car and return at 1700 with everything done. Recently mentioned to them that a couple of wheels I had done around 5 years ago had developed a bit of crazing in the finish. Didn't really expect anything but they were both refinished free of charge.

Maybe too far but Tintex in Portsmouth are a small operation but did mine beautifully,,,stupidy didn't get the wheel hubs done so going back to do soon. Meanwhile they are also recommended by PCS.

Powdercoated at TheWheelSpecialist in Farnborough Hampshire. £408 all in. 24 hour turn around.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I will give these places a google today. Quite a big difference in prices for powder coat, I’ve seen some as low as £250 for all four, up to around £480, I wonder if there’s a real difference in quality? Or if they’re keeping the car overnight etc...

Would love some more pics and prices :D

I paid £216 for mine Ed, car kept on site, powdercoated amazing finish etc. Inc tyres fitting.

I used bjv engineering - Google Search

My local powder coaters will do a bare 19" rim for £45 each. Obviously you need to get the tyre off and back on again.

Hey man, that's the lowest price I've seen - but the quote on the website would be £264 not £216 for car on site, up to 20", though? What's your secret?!

Still cheap anyway!

I could do shadow chrome for around £300 then...

I popped into BJV today and have booked mine in for Monday. AMG 18" wheels in silver, leaving car on site and been quoted £264 as per website. The £216 offer was only over winter and now not available. i was a bit unsure on one of my wheels as it has a slow leak so he whipped the wheel off to check if it was buckled or cracked and gave it the all clear. If all goes well I will get the car back on Wednesday.

Great, thanks for the update! Would love to see the before/after pics!

Is dropping it off Mon - Weds the usual amount of time it takes?

My only issue is getting there/back, etc. But I do like that they put their prices up on the website very clearly, no 'get a quote' forms

My wheels to be honest aren't the worst I've seen, just the one leaking and the rest just need tidying up to match. Monday to Wednesday is what i was quoted as long as i get it to him at 7am so it goes in the dipping tank early otherwise it will be Thursday.(Not a problem or issue for me as i was expecting 5 day turnaround anyway) He will also drop me off at Hemel Hempstead train station and pick me up again when the car is ready. i will just use the bus to get home. Direct bus to Aylesbury 1 hour or 3 hours by train (Hemel to London Euston then underground to Marylebone then train to Aylesbury!!). He did say taxi's weren't too keen on going there as it is very very out of town :)

Not local to you however the do offer collection & delivery service and you don’t need to remove tyres, is LEPSONs of Gillingham.

Have used for many years and many sites of wheels, have a set AMG 18’s I use with winter tyres that where refurbed to shadow chrome 5+ yrs ago and still look great. Also used them for Diamond Cut refurb and they now offer 12 months warranty on the finish of these. They are used by several Mercedes main dealers in the SE as well.

I’ve had two sets done at BJV, (one set had a couple of cracks welded which were fine for the next 2 yrs - car then sold)

They do have winter special prices, but their regular pricing is very good, and the work I had done looked great.

Hey man, did you get this done in the end? How are you liking the results?

This place is by far the cheapest quotation I've seen...
