Hi

My Sprinter was stolen just before Christmas, the police wrote it off chasing the thief and ramming it. I found out the area in which I was parked has see a doubling in the theft of vans in 12 months. One guy can't get a van now as he had 3 stolen from outside his house - under his CCTV.

What extremes can I go to to protect my new van?

On my list:

I'm getting slamlocks at the earliest - definite
Steering bar,
1+ additional trackers,
Cloud-recorded cctv facing the driver
2 pedal locks,
gear stick and handbrake lock

Fitting a custom cloud-controlled engine immobiliser (which I can control with my phone) and fitting it with a few other custom products (my trade is electronics).

Thanks for any tips
Kevin

Full size disc Lok proves excellent in both being a visual deterrent so that though don't even try to access the van (causing entry damage) and are , we're told, genuinely difficult to get off. More so than a bar. I see a number of RS 4 and RS 6 owners using them in hotels car parks

I believe they can fit under a van seat, though if not, you do have a van to store it in during the day......;)

Discrete tech will mean they will still cost you hundreds in entry and failed theft.

Parking in a secure location and getting public transport home would probably be cheaper.:(

Autowatch's Ghost is what I'd fit if I needed to have something.

I have always used a Disklok and have never had even so much as a break in

Use the usually visual deterrents like a steering lock and then fit an isolation switch somewhere hidden (e.g tucked under the passenger side dashboard). That disconnects the battery and means that unless your thief finds the switch, the van isn’t moving anywhere. A decent auto electrician should be able to do it for you if (like me) you aren’t confident finding the appropriate wire to fit the switch to.

Will be in touch here, thanks for post and everyone else too,
Slamlocks being fitted Monday.
I'm fitting a fuel auto shutoff valve - will post in the appropriate forum as I need to know the i/s and o/s fuel pipe diameter for a 2019 Sprinter.
I've got an internet of things block of relays and 24 hour CCTV set up now so I can monitor and turn on/off things remotely. Two trackers installed.
Thanks again

You can also buy wheel clamps in caravan shops . All these things take time to remove .

Another +1 for the Ghost. With that your van won't be going anwhere unless it's lifted.
