My compost bin (about the size of an upturned dustbin) has trillions of ants in it. This morning they were moving their numerous eggs around for whatever reason, so it looks as if it's a well established colony.

Should I try to get rid, if so how, or treat it as a part of life and just accept it?

Depends on if you are Hindu or Budhist and if you believe in Karma. If your answer is no to all 3, then a little Nippon poison placed near the bin where the ants walk should eradicate them in 48 hours.

Also are they red or black ants, I am colour prejudice simply because the red ones sting :).

I have ants in my bin as well, I'll just leave it between them and the worms to fight it out over residency :D

Leave them!
