Hi there all, I have a RHD 1975 280ce , I have no idea what its worth so I though I would ask you guys as you guys are the experts. It is pretty perfect as it has done less than 60k miles.

I will need to sell her soon and was wondering what its worth and if I should sell on ebay or a classic car auction?

Giles

their no 0207 468 5801

Thanks, I will want to well in the UK because it's rhd and I hope it goes for more than 6k for it if I am honest as I think it's as good as you can find

Hi there, Its from OZ and rust free. As a hobby I buy classic Land Cruisers and just fancied this Merc because I have always wanted one but I should have resisted because I have to many vehicles as it is. inside is like new

If it is rust free and in as good condition as you describe then its possibly worth quite a lot--- provided----- there's a buyer out there. The W114 COUPES are a bit of an orphan model for some unfathomable reason. :dk: They lack the kudos of the W111 coupes or maybe the practicality of the later W123 coupes.
One current fully restored example: -
Used 1972 MERCEDES-BENZ 250 Historic Vehicle Nil Tax for sale in Norfolk | Pistonheads

I would go specialist/classic auction rather than E bay or try phoning round some of the specialist classic mercedes retailers.
ps should have added ---Does it run on unleaded
pps W114 not W115 Touche Charles!

W114 coupes Graeme...

That's a very nice one, with the very rare electric window option.

There's another restored W114 coupe for sale in London for just under £20k.

Both are with dealers, so don't get carried away about prices. If yours is good I wouldn't ebay it (a horrible way to sell a good car) nor would I auction it - the money auctioneers take out of the trade is horrendous. I'd look to find a car broker and leave it with them to advertise and sell - you will pay well under half the commissions that you would to an auction.

Awesome thanks very much ,my heart stop when I saw 6k as I paid a lot more than that, in my head I am thinking 14k but am just guessing, it has AC PAS and electric roof but no idea if they all had that, no leather which I thought it would have had. Could a Merc Dealer do a full service on it or should I find a specialist, it's not been on the road for a bit and hate it when cars aren't right?

Ps just in case anyone cares here is a pic of the classic Land Cruisers I do specialise in.

With working AC as well, that is a very very nice car to have (I hate sunroofs so pass on that!) and very rare indeed. Get it serviced at a specialist (MB wouldn't have a clue - where are you for a recommendation?).

I'm restoring a W114 coupe at the moment, but mine is rather less well equipped!

I'am in Tewkesbury GL20 8NB,,any suggestions would be a great help thanks

A perusal of a 2014 price guide yielded

LAUNCH PRICE £3475

EXCELLENT £14,000
GOOD £8,000
AVERAGE £3,500
PROJECT £2,500

it defiantly falls into the excellent category, I only buy stuff for a hobby so i tend to be very fussy especially when its not a classic Land cruiser. Anyway I only bought it for myself because I always wanted so I am not to worried about making any money just don,t want to lose any. I will drive it about for a week or two just to make sure its working properly and to take the wife out (she won`t be interested in the slightest)

even has the books with it and two sets of keys

it will be worth more if it was earlier model as it now falls in tax exempt category, your car will be next on the list

however as RHD versions sat around in the factory for a long while, it is definitely worth while for you to contact mercedes in belgium for date of manufacture as if this falls onto 1974 it could qualify at tax exempt which help you achieve the higher price closer to 20k

Electric sunroof wasquite common. Leather wasn't the top option in those days, velour was top, followed by leather, followed by mbtex. Today mb tex is a good option as it won't degrade like leather, and no one wants velour. Lol.

aircon in the uk, never saw one with it.

what is mbtex? is that what mine has, its sort of half leather with check in blue? somebody said the 250 coupe is worth more because its older and somebody else said the 280ce is worth more because its better is any of that true or does it not really matter?

MBTex is vinyl that looks like leather. It is immensely long lived and the way to tell if you have MB tex is it will be unlikely to show any wear whereas leather by now will be worn.

I have no idea whether a late 280CE is more valuable than an early 250CE but my money is on it being so, having a decent amount more power.
