Any Indies on here?

Hi Guys,

As per title...any Indie specialists on here?

I'm prepared to travel (West Wales) I fear my TC and GB are on the way out ( '03 W211 E270 CDI, 722.640 transmission) and was looking for someone to do the job...

Prefer to use someone that members use/know rather than some random place, or, if anyone has any feedback or suggestions that would also be greatfully appreciated.

Wayne Gates, Harrow
All come highly recommended though sadly all are a bit far for me so I have not used them.

I've heard of a specialist in Barry Docks from a friend who lives in Cardiff but don't know details.

You might have more choice if you include specialist autotransmission repairers in your search. You may have fallen victim to the Valeo radiator heat exchanger problem which allows coolant into the gearbox fluid- If this is the case the box is toast.

What's a TC & a GB?

With a gearbox with an internal problem very few indies will do anything other than remove the problem tranny & ship it to a specialist repairer. They won't fix it themselves, so, once you have found a good one, you might as well got directly to a repair guy yourself.

TC = torque converter
GB= Gearbox

Hi

A few MB owners I know have used Continental Cars in Cardiff. They've all said the service and knowledge of MBs are very good. I've not used them yet but intend giving them a try.

I am also in West Wales, also looking for a Specialist. Had a conversation with Continental in Cardiff yesterday, they sounded very knowledgeable and charges quoted were very competitive and offered a free Star check ( normally£50 +vat ) for first visit so they can identify any possible issues. I will very likely book my 2008 E320 in for a C service next week.
Tried to escape the main dealers last year and found the Barry Docks Specialist on line, but no visual of premises. We booked in and arrived at a very old Nissan hut on the day. Could not find anyone so called in at a body shop couple of huts down.
After talking to the occupant we drove away! They did not have an MB mechanic
and have bad reputation, this was confirmed by trawling the Internet and talking to family who live in Barry. When we rang saying we had decided not to leave the car we got an earful of abuse , a very lucky escape, it was back to MB dealer last year. Hope this year will be a lot better.
