This has caught my eye.

Track Day Cars : Stunning Grp4 Escort Mk1

Are there any gurus who can advice on suitable values and points of note of these cars? I suspect the top money goes to original examples, but a track prepared one would suit me nicely :)

I know just one thing about these and it's probably not much use to you sorry.

The bodyshell of those which were originally fitted with an auto gearbox are in demand as rally/track cars, this is because the gearbox tunnel was made wider to allow for a bigger box (can therefore accomodate a beefier box when modified).

That's why my wife's one was nicked apparently!

Looks a very good spec :thumb: If it has a Type 49 shell it is worth more than a standard shell. But the spec of that car is high with alot of money spent.

Jem build good Pinto's also

No claim of "guru-ness", but I did own a '72 Esquirt 30 years ago.

The biggest issue with any Ford of that era is rot. That said, I doubt anyone would have gone to the time and trouble to build that particular car without attending to the rotten bits. However, the top strut mounts are the obvious bit you can see that's been repaired, but there are many other places, e.g. inner and outer sills, front bulkhead, headlamp / grill panel, etc. that are more difficult to inspect: ignore them at your peril.

All in all they're as simple a car as you can get. Well set up, I would expect it to be a good deal of fun, and it should be cheap as chips to run.

As for value, FWIW, in 1984 my one sold for just under a 100th of the asking price of that car ;)

Hi

NormanC on here has a Mexico i think.

I still have my MK1 1100/1300/1600 Mexico replica in a garage but it was never a good one.

They rot everywhere but look fantastic and are great fun to drive and tinker with:D:D:D

I bet its still worth a pretty penny judging by todays prices...

If you dont have a need for it, put it on ebay and be prepared for a nice suprise...:)

I know a little.

That is a very good spec car for not much cash. The 6 link set up alone is lovely. It would have had a good body resto becuase of the type shocks fitted.

I had a few escorts Mk1's and Mk2's RS2000 and an Orginal Mk1 1800 this is a better spec than any I owned. Would make a fun track car. However remember she's an old girl and even with that spec of suspension and engine it won't be as quick or handle as well as a mondern equivalent.
