Any Multi Track Recorder Gurus On Tonight?

Two choices:

Usage is for my lad to record at home.

A secondhand but mint KorgP3200 or a new Zoom R16.

Roughly the same price.

if I understand them correctly, the Korg has no SD card, but a hard drive and CD writer, whereas the Zoom is SD card based.

Is the Korg just old hat now, or a step up all round, despite being older?

Any view gratefully received.

The Korg is pretty old-tech now. The R16 can be used as a DAW controller so can be used with Logic, Cubase, etc on a PC or Mac

Hardware sequencer / recorders will take you only so far. To take it further many people switch to a Mac with Logic. Logic Pro X is £140 and a hardware interface will cost £40 upwards

I think you can connect an external hard drive to the Zoom via USB

I'm no longer up to date with home recording but I recall that, as of 8 yrs ago, PC-based freeware or software bundled free with digi audio interfaces was often better than all but the highest-end dedicated studio hardware.

I had a good look at the R16 today guys and, largely based upon it's portability/SD Card format and ability to "front end" his PC, I decided to get him one.

Many thanks :thumb:.
