It would happen on xmas eve...

Grohe cistern on a toilet. It has a pump action - flush button has a plastic tube on the back which disappears into the cistern. Gone from one push required to two for the last few days so I was hoping it would last out 'til after the holiday. Now needs 7 or 8 firm pushes to operate.

Is there a common, easy to fix problem or is it likely to need serious attention?

Sometimes it is as easy as cutting a small piece of the tube off, to ensure a better seal at the plunger end. Don't cut too much off or it won't reach.

If all else fails, keep a bucket handy, so you can fill it from the bath and pour direct into the bowl.

Spare mechanisms from your local DIY shed after the festivities.......
