This was on ebay a while ago, didn't sell and has been relisted. I am interested in it but know very little about W202 AMGs. I know there are some very well informed members out there so was wondering if its good value, how does it stack up against a C43, running costs against a C43? And do you think it will become a future 'classic'.

Thanks Buffers

Thanks for the link Geezer.

price a bit high i think hes trying to claw back some money as he changed the gearbox but looks ok but cars look different in the flesh

horgantrevor, its my old car, the guy paid more than that and the car was mint when sold. And i knew the guy was very picky when he bought it so he most probably would have kept it that way!

anyone needs more info on that c36 let me know as i know more abt it than the current owner :) its only done 5K since sold by the pics.

sounds good so ,but why did he have all that work done

or was it done before he bought it

but after saying that if it has been looked after it would be a good buy

that was my description, i dont think he has had anything done!

still have a soft spot for that car as you would after owning it 9 years no expense spared!

if you had the room and money why not buy it back nows your chance

i sold a car years ago i wish i had never
and a bike that i still long for

dont have the room, and tbh, cant afford to keep 2 cars in the condition i like to keep them (time and money) if i could id have it back!

that c36 would probably have zero maintenance costs (apart from the services) for the next few years as everything was changed months before selling it! (brakes, pads, shocks, plugs, brake fluid etc etc....)

All very interesting. So it was your car Alps. The seller had a couple of offers on it the first time round which were rejected. I think the highest one was £3500. As l said l am not up on AMG models but have always had a soft spot for them every since l owned a c240 many years back. I read somewhere these were converted cars, not fully put together at AMG unlike the C43?

Buffers, yes thats true to an extent, converted at the AMG factory, all c36`s are based on a c280 , but the engine is modified before installation and the suspension and all the other AMG bits are all put on at the production line. theres a few articles on the web floating around.

If theres ever a c36 you should buy its that one the advert is spot on on all the work i had done over the years and even just before i sold it, it had grenstuff pads all round and brand new MB disks, i also put a new set of lorinser bilstien shocks on months before selling it together with a brand new mb battery., litle things like the AMG mats, AMG door sills are all genuine and also the C43 Xenon headlight convertion was very rare and hard to get hold of cost me in the region of £500. then you have the w210 folding dimming and blinking mirrors, all connectors were handmade to mb spec using mb pins and casings. Interior miror was also changed to auto dimming, your talking over £500 for the mirror converstion not including the blanking of the wing indicators and painting, all done properly by welding not filling!

all wings were rust treated when i started seeing bubbling, also changed the rear lights to facelift.

what more can i say, apart from the bootlid rust which would take very little to fix (and doesnt need it tbh) nothing else needs doing. Pics do show the front bumper has dropped a little but thats an easy adjustment, even that was stripped down to plastic and re-painted due to years of stonechips.

Thanks Alps. Its great to have insider info on a car before you go to view, because as l said l haven't the knowledge to check what was done/modified etc. I will try to get up to see it at weekend, thats if its not sold by then. I can only assume its the economic market that stops this type of car selling. I wouldn't be doing many miles in it, looking for a long term buy. I always look after my motors but l have chucked money at lost causes in the past, ie my old W210 (just to much rust). Something for retirement, thats if l every get to the position financially!!

The info gained on here has to be a considerable bonus.

Alps has almost convinced me and I have absolutely no use for one.

Bit of a pity, that.
