Anyone dealt with Crewe Engines before? I am toying with the idea of replacing my engine.....

They want around £2100 to swap out my 2.6 litre engine. I shall investigate further.

They are extremely good form what ive heard, but that is expensive.... You could get a decent engine from dronsfileds or wherever and get someone (a specialist) to fit it for a few hundred quid.....

Whats wrong with your current engine??

It's more of a piece of mind thing. The car has a rough idle and is using some oil at the moment. Both of those things could cost a bit to get fixed in terms of labour and parts.

If it's going to cost me near £1000 to fix the current problems, then I will probably spend the extra and have a brand spanking new engine with a warranty.

I'll call around and see what's happening with other places.

I seeee... Crewe engines only supply engines though, if there is some problem with your electronics for example (causing the bad idling) then you will still have that problem.
They will not supply other ancilaries to the engine at all.....
So it could end up costing you loads if you fork out on the engine and still have problems.....

I beg to differ Jaymanek they do a fitting service too and supply all the ancillary components but at a cost. Quoted me £500 ish for a 24 hr turnarround on an engine swap for my ex 190E (2ltr)

Yes, they will supply ancillaries if they fit themselves, but my point is, theyre gonna charge extra if anything is needed, and when they charge extra, its crewe engines type extra... a lot... but theyre stuff is good....
The problem is, untill they dont fit the new engine, they dont know what ancillaries will need to be changed, hence you could end up with an even bigger bill....

Is the car worth that much to you is what id think about....

May not be too much of an issue now. George Fraser has quoted me around 200 for the repair of the leak.

[whew!]

Now I can go on the German factory trip next month without worrying about the car exploding on the autobahn! :)

Let me correct that. George quoted 200 for the FRONT crank shaft seal. What a pity the leak is from the rear!!!!

Dropped the car in at GF this morning, heard nothing so I called at 3pm to be told that the cost would be 900+VAT!

7-10 hours of labour to do the headgasket and about 5-6 hours to drop the gearbox out and repair the rear crank shaft seal.

GRR!

Called Crewe and they want 1350+Vat for an engine and 325+vat to fit it.

Now i just have to make up my mind......

Scott,

I have a 190 2.5 16v on 150k miles. The compression ratios were down etc.. so crewe did me a complete rebuild for £3770. This included all the big bits (pistons, liners, gudgeon pins, all bearings / gaskets / seals, timing chain, valve gear etc etc...) to a very high standard. Unfortunately the car developed an oil leak soon after, which to their credit they repaired immediatley free of charge (the engine also has a very good warranty). It is new absolutely as good as new and was worth every penny.
