The goodyear eagle f1 gsd3's on my w203 are becoming so d"#% noise that I almost HAVE TO SCREAM WHEN CHATING WITH WIFE...
Well actually not that bad but quite noisy indead. Did not happen on the ones mounted on our previous Seat. Has anyone else experience tyre whine from the gsd3's (sounds like a bearing is going)?

Only differences I can remember between both:

w203 wider rear tyre and ones on Seat where made in Germany (ones on 203 made in China:().

Looking for opinions on quite tyres as well..:)

mine became very noisy with 3mm, had my bearings checked and when i changed the wheels everything was fine

hope that helps

Thanks but had bearing checked. Really coming from tyres. About 4mm thread left, but thinking it might be from construction or rubber compound. Will be replaced in a few months anyway.

I've had similar road noise problems with directional patterned tyres when they are worn so now i try to use non-directional tyres and dont have any problems with noise

I had F1 GSD3's on my 2002 c220 CDI and to be honest never realy noticed them being any louder.
Excellent tyres in the rain but in the dry they were not good at all, at first I thought they just needed beading in, but that never changed and I even got in contact with Goodyear with concerns about the chinese / taiwan replicas but that was ruled out.
Oh and they only lasted about 8,000 Miles . and the tramlining was horrific!

Thanks for everyones responses:)

Honestly think they are a good tyre, but not a great tyre. At least not on the 203. Wondering if the uneven wear could be causing the noise? Absolutely sure the tyre had no noise issue on the Seat (even worn beyond the legal limit).

Will probably be heading back to the conti SC3 or will maybe try michelins this time round. Would like something that wears well (unfortunately not the case with conti).

You'll certainly get good life out of Michelins and, in my experience with two W124s and a W126, no noise problems either. Their hard compound means less braking efficiency in the wet, but that's not something that has ever concerned me.

I have run 18"F1 GSD3 on a 211 and found them muh quieter than the worn Conti Sportcontact 2 which came off.
We all know how good a new set of tyres feel. The grip, the smooth ride, the balance and normally the quietness.
This is no accident. The depth of tread really does improve the ride and the mass of the tread helps dampen out resonances in the tyre. Imigine the high pressure in the tyre makes it 'ring', as the tread belt wears away there is much less damping and so the noise increases. This is really noticable on rough or concrete surfaces.
Some tyres suffer more than others, tread pattern plays some part as does width, aspect ratio and construction. As any tyre wears the ride quality reduces, the noise increases and the ability to clear water reduces.
We tend to change tyres when the law dictates, but if we want the very best performace we should replace them twice as often. I seldom keep a car beyond 50K miles. I know it will do many more....but like tyres I tend to change them!:o

For me that would be replacing car yearly...

Strange, but I've had the exact opposite experience between conti and goodyear. Could be down to the uneven wear on tyre.
tyre replacement for me really depends on season. If in summer, I will let them go to legal limit (it doesn't really rain hear during the summer). If any other season swap from 2-3mm of thread left (and that's already dangerous in a downpour). Paulo

I'm running on Dunlop Sport 9000 on a '96 SL500. Good price, but they are a lot nosier than the tyres I had on before, Pirelli (I don't remember which). The noise can be quite intrusive sometimes, particularly over rougher surfaced roads.

The Dunlops do have good dry grip, less so in the wet. Will be trying Falken FK452 next time, though they can be a bit tricky to get hold of.

I had SP 9000's on my E55 and I hated them in the wet and were very noisey too. I'm running Kumho Ecsta STP's now, so much better in the wet, quieter and less than £500 for a full set!

Well got tyres recalibrated today (also had a slight vibration on steering wheel). Guys tested on a new machine, that actually presses wheel/tyre combo again some sort of cylinder to simulate actual road. Both front tyres really sang...
Tyres seem to be out of round... Guess I will have to live with it for a couple more months.

Guys at the tyre shop have also said good things about the Kumho's.
