I have my C class advertised on Autotrader and the only call that I have received has been from the above company. They claim to have ready buyers for my car and that although there is a fee I could also make a little commission if the car is sold on a finance agreement.

I've always heard that agencies are not worth it so I got rid of her pronto.

Should I have listened to her? I must admit that I expected a hard sell but she was surprisingly easy to fob off and I'm left with the impression that she thinks I need her more than she needs me!

I'm now wondering if there's any merit in using such a company.

Its a con. do not use them.
they tried it on me as well and they have been on watchdog.
if they can really do that, will they not sell the car first and deduct their fees from the sale, like estate agents?

How can you pay upfront to have your car sold when you are selling it cos you need money?

Second that. Never used them but they've also been mentioned on 3 Counties Radio. If no enquiries so far, is the price right? and beef the description up ie cherished family car or something similar to catch a readers eye. Then again might just be the time of year.

Ask yourself this, given the large number of cars on sale everywhere; showrooms, ebay, Autotrader, private ads - why would you go to Cardata - who havent't got the car you want in the vain hope that they will find somebody who has got the car that you want and that you, instead of the several other buyers they have lined up, will be able to buy it at the price you want?

A friend of mine tried it, they took the money and he didn´t get a single lead. They then only offered a discount in trying to sell his next car, rather than the promised refund... Needless to say he won´t be using them again

Thanks guys - All is as I suspected them.

I'll see what happens with Autotrader, It's only been with them 3 days so not desperate yet.

and another in agreement. i used them years ago and didnt get a single lead either - it is a con, and i have never heard of anyone who has sold a car though them. i would steer well clear from them an stick with the usual suspects...

same here promise the earth and comes to nothing in future put no canvassers in your advertisment..

Avoid

Yes, must admit a few years ago I tried a company like this. The list of 'interested' buyers is actually a list of people who are selling their car (conned by Cardata) and asked what car do you want to buy? You'll say 'oh, errr, probably a CLK'..that's good enough for them. You get a list of people who mentioned a CLK...they're not in any position to buy and they live 300 miles away from you.

I reported them to trading standards. I then had fun with future calls by these plebs. They said..'you'll want to sell the car as soon as possible'.. I said, no not really, it's a lovely car. 'But the value of your car is dropping as time goes by'...Oh good, so is the car I want aswell. :p

I just had a call off these jokers. I asked the muppet if he could read as it clearly states in my Ad "no agencies or canvasers". He's obviously heard it before because he then gave me some abuse and hung up, the bugger beat me to it!

Unbelievable cheek to give you grief. I might just have some fun next time. Remember, they're just after money. So rather than the abuse route (where they can get in first), mess with their heads.

"mmm, that sounds really interesting, tell me more".... {listen to pap} "ahhhm right, my car is lovely, would you like it?" {listen to no answer} "so, sorry, tell me again, what's it all about" {nip to toilet} "I see, let me get my card out" {incorrectly read out card numbers and mumble half of them} "Sorry, did you not hear, it's {mumble completely different numbers}... then just start singing {perhaps some Lionel Richie..."hello? is it meeeee you're looking for?" :D

You just gave me a great idea, the next agent who calls me is going to get "Rick Rolled" :D
