Hi Gang,
A bit of a long shot here - but worth a try
Anyone familiar with the timing setup for single VANOS on a '97/98 520i M52 engine?
And if you have access to workshop manuals or spec, anyone know the torque setting/sequence for the head bolts?
Have spent a few hours today stripping down said engine in a friend's BMW (head gasket replacement). Located the timing mark for TDC on the crank pulley (O/T) and the arrows on the exhaust cam - just couldn't really see an obvious way to check the inlet side with the VANOS unit.
Have marked everything as best as we could - just thinking ahead in case we come accross any problems on re-assembly. The cam gears are slotted as well!
On the plus side, got it all stripped okay and the head off, the only mishap so far was two 11mm nuts that fell onto the undertray - could be worse!
I've posted on a BMW forum as well
Many thanks,
Will
