Guys,

I would like to find a screw driver if possible to fit this. Not a torx or anything I have ever seen.

mas_screw.jpg

This is one of two screws holding the actual MAS sensor in it's housing. Reason being is I would like to remove to try and clean my MAS either for a future spare or to sell (as a failed and repaired part obviously).

I don't hold much faith, but apparently either brake cleaner or similar is worth a go at delicatley cleaning it with.

Not sure what the special properties of brake cleaner are??

Anyone got one in their toolbox? Is this a MB pattern screw used on other parts?

Zerocool maybe??

I used a degreaser aerosol spray from Les Smiths to clean my MAS with no ill effects. Any type of degreaser should do the job really.

No idea on the screw though - looks like some kind of security head

Why did you clean yours? Was it in a real bad way?

Hi graham,

Ill have my box on saturday, im sure well get it off if you need, i have a star set but the bit in the middle makes it a security bolt...

Nah, not really... I took it out for inspection one day and thought it looked a bit mucky :)

Don't think it made any difference to performance, other than a few psychological BHP...

I have had a K&N fitted and regularly re-oiled for over 2 years BTW, with no probs...slightly different plumbing to a W202 obviously ;)

Not sure about you with your turbo, but it was the plumbing that made me wonder why mine failed but others haven't.

Unlike normally aspirated W202's where the MAS is right next to the air box, mine is way on the other side of the engine bay on the other side of the intercooler, much less influenced by contamination you might think. Obviously not!

Anyone who can help on Saturday much appreciated.

Bring your screw drivers and de-greaser sprays!!

Could either grind the screws down in the centre or drill my torx I guess! - NOT!

I have seen bolts like that before,They are using them as a security feature when doing boot installs, so I would think you would be able to get a wrench or something from a car audio specialist that might fit?

Ill have all that anyway!

No offense, but waned to be able to remove and put back un-mutalated. Not desperate enough for those tactics yet!!!

We'll see on Saturday anyway.

Lol! im a bodger.....

U could put a normal screw/bolt back with the same thread...

Anyway, we'll see!

I've got the right bit in my toolbox :)

I'll bring it on Sat

Between £270 and £300 depending on model and dealership :)

Yup the MAS makes a big difference to the way the engine runs, both Graham and I have had our MAS's replaced recently.

I hate to revive this thread . . . but . . .

I have just been advised by a MB Technician, that it is possible to do a straight swap with a MAS from the V Class. The housings are different, but the actual sensors are the same, and are simply screwed in !

The price for a V Class air mass meter . . . (are you sitting down . . . ) £70 including VAT.

Needless to say, I have asked for the part number, and will advise in due course !

Just to confirm, pretty much all the models use the same sensor in different housings.
The V Class is indeed the cheapest one.
There is two variations, one with an in-line plug and the more common 'round plug' type that is common place in 202's etc...

Been sellin them for years like this ;)

Whoa V12!!

Good to see you back mate! :D I guess you're still really busy as your posts are rare.

I'll have to remember to buy a vito/V class MAS the next time my one bites the dust ;) Damn good money making scheme, I wonder what the official MB response would be if someone asked why the huge difference in price for the same bit of kit?

This is because commercial owners will LOL at £300 for a sensor and tell the stealership to get knotted! :)
