Hi Guys,

Am in the midst of getting my HID Kit for my car, but will just be getting HID for the H7(main bulb).
The full beam - H7, and Sidelight - T4W bulb are going to remain standard.
Which led me thinking i can get a xenon white bulb H7 for the beam, and possibly sidelights to go together.
Although, i have heard people say that the LEDs aren't good for your mercs and give "bulb malfunction" on the computer.
Is there a way round this???
Resistors etc?
Please let me know.
Regards

I have HID fitted to mine too. I also bought some LED's (the super white ones) that complemented the HIDs well. However, they do not last that long in my experience and tend to blow after a few months. They do give a warning bulb .

Also since the HIDs were so powerful you could hardly see the LEDs, so all in all I ended up disconnecting them. The warning message comes up but I can live with that.

PIAA do certain LED bulbs with resistors built in, but they are expensive

Check HERE for example. These dont activate the bulb out warnings.

I've seen ones with resistors built in for £10s on ebay, are the PIAA bulbs pretty bright, as chrisbala just said HIDS can often overpower a weak sidelight bulb.

Another question: Chrisbala Which HID kit do you have and does that set off the malfunction error?

On my SLK R170 I have leds in the tail lights (parallel resistors. leds in the side turn sigs, no resistor, leds (1w super brite) in the parking holders, no resistors., leds in the No plate, no resistos, inertior light, boot light etc. All lasted a couple of years so far...

On my wifes A200 (W169) it made them flash... I have read that a large capacitor in parallel fixes that issue, havnt tried it yet.

Where have you seen these LED ones with built in resistors, do you have a link ? An LED is an LED I really think £50 for PIAA ones is a RIP and a tenner seems more reasnable as a white LED is a way better match for a HID kit than a standard bulb giving a dull orange look. You would idearly want white LEDs as they would give the best colour temperature match match.

I know they are very expensive to replace with MB and cannot be repaired. The brake light strip is £60 for W170 and W211. The rear brake sidelight if fitted with LEDs in some W211 and new cars have to be replaced complete. There is a warning in the owner book that some of the bulbs not LEDs are high pressure and may explode if you mishandled. If you know where to source it outwith MB, please share your info.;)

I looked at fitting LED tailights on W203. However, posts on here and on MB World discouraged me from doing so. Will wait until the resistor problem is sorted out.

Looking at the auction now, i may be wrong as i was under the assumption that sidelight bulbs in CLK were BA9S/ T4W and not the normal 501 type?

I'll ask him a question and see what he says

Regarding the LEDs in strips these are made up of 3 LEDs in series, if one goes then 3 will be out. If the pcb can be removed then the fauly LED can be replaced.

If the PCB points are welded (melted over) then the PCB can be glued in place

Those bulbs will show up errors, trust me !

PIAA are the only ones on the market with the resistor kit adapter.

Its cheaper to buy any LED sidelight bulbs £6 for a pair and fit resistors to each , £5 for a pair.
