Hey guys as per title just wondering if anyone knows this car or has viewed it?

I know it's over priced but it will be a keeper and I've looked at a lot and haven't seen one that has been up to the standard of what i'm looking for.

Read just about every buyers guide online so hopefully it's as good as it looks if I make the trip across!!

Cheers :thumb:

1989 (G) Mercedes Benz 300SE 1 Previous Owner, Immaculate W126 | eBay

Looks very nice but as you say,not cheap.I know tax is a bit dear there but I`d look for a 500 or a 560 if it`s a keeper

That is very expensive. Try putting a wanted request in the classifieds here

+1 with dw124. If your're gonna pay that price look for a 560

Looks a bit like a long wheelbase car but difficult to tell??? They are pretty long cars at the best of times so make sure it will fit in the garage! Would have to be mint at that money but its a helluva car for little outlay.

It's been on Ebay for a while.

It may just be a figment of my imagination but something about the front bumper in the main photo just doesn't look right.

I thought the front grill looked odd.

It's not - easiest way to tell is look at the rear seats shot. No where near the leg room of an L. It is difficult to tell from the side of these though!

The add commits my most hated trader sin. "Only one previous owner". So its had two owners then. Not one. Just say "Two Owners" ffs.

Front bumper and grille look fine to me.

126 is the easiest vehicle to determine wheelbase length. Trim between drop glass and quarter glass is painted centre with 2 chrome strips on lwb and just 1 chrome strip on swb.

I know what it is... The licence plate is missing ;-)

I've had a few reads of that ad myself. I keep fancying it, and then worrying that deep down I'd regret not getting a 500/560. After all, if I'm going to pamper something and lavish it with maintenance, then it ought to be a top of the line jobbie.

It's not ! "SEL" denotes LWB , "SE" SWB. Or as suggested by V12 :

See side view photos and note the trim in quarter window:

Both are very tidy .

The prices probably reflect the general upturn in W126 prices as the worst ones go to the breakers , along with the below average mileage on these two examples .

A lot of 300's , being entry level cars , may have been bought for use in the 'carriage trade' , or by price conscious buyers and hence tend not to have many options ticked compared to the larger models .

Having said that , my 280SE came with air-con , cruise , illuminated visors , reading lights in the back , and I have retrofitted leather with two electric front seats , still have HWW and OTG to put in .

Been trying for 2 weeks to get over to see this car with no luck. So what was the logical sensible thing to do, make a cheeky offer, agree a price and buy it unseen.

Never done that before....going in with the mentality that a lump of scrap metal is going to land at my door next week....and anything better will be a bonus :)

Will keep the thread updated as and when!

phew :p
Arrived today....very nervous....never bought a car unseen in my life!
Thankfully the cars great! Started and ran better than I could have hoped, drove as new, bodywork, chrome and interior perfect. Only faults I could find was the original radio was playing up...ripped it out in favor of a new one but will keep an eye on ebay for a suitable replacement and a bit of a chip in the front windscreen.
My mechanic is taking it tonight to do a front to back service, bushes, gearbox oil, coolent etc, when he's finished I'll get a few pics and put a new thread up!
All in all very pleased!! If a 560 sec/sel comes up in this condition it will be for sale, untill then it will have a place in the garage!

Where abouts are you? I have a '90 300SE which I bought from Charles Ironside five years ago and I love it to bits. You will find the 3.0 engine is just fine and you wont need a 4.2/5.0/5.6 ......

I use a guy in Co Wicklow who specializes in W123/W124/W126 cars and knows them inside out which is a good thing as the W126 has its little foibles!

Why are you changing bushes??

Cheers mate... Can't write back on this forum as not enough posts but did on another one....
