Anyone know what this sensor is for? W

Hi,

I was rummaging around in the engine bay and noticed this sensor hanging around loose. It was covered it old dirty oil+dirt. Anyone what it is and where it should be mounted to?

Its harness was along with the left headlights going below the coolant tank

Engine bay is of a W211 E55

I’m sure someone will be along to help. Is there a number stamped on the plastic casing at all?

That looks to me like the bonnet open sensor that would be on the underside of the right hand bonnet latch. Is the cable tie holding a metal blade in the closed position?

Also wire colours could help.

Could it be the anti-theft alarm engine hood switch?

Thanks all. I am not too sure it was just hanging loose. I did check for a part number but couldn't see one. Also yes the cable tie is holding down a metal strip with a small green oring at one end.
