Anyone near Middlesex who could/would go check out a used car for us?

A cool looking first car and a feelgood story into the bargain.
Doesn't get any better, does it?
Absolutely Mikey. More proud that she’s bought it herself with no help from the Bank of M&D. She’s been a great little saver over the years. No designer clothes or latest phones. Took all the hours work she’s been offered.

Only thing we’ve treated her to was a contribution to the insurance for her 18th birthday next month. I’ll obviously be ordering bits n bobs for the car to spruce it up a bit. 😁

Just showed my daughter this thread including the car. A big thumbs up from her.

Who’s your daughter insured with because at the moment that’s the stumbling block here. Sophia has the car money burning a hole in her bank that she can access on her 18th at the end of July.

DriveXpert. (Subsidiary of Privilege I believe). Didn’t search them out. It was just the cheapest one with comparethemarket.com

Also tried confused.com

I’ve just renewed insurance on our 2 vehicles at about £550. More than last year. Did the usual searches but was very shocked at one of the offerings. Last Friday at the weekly shop at Tesco they flagged up their insurance so I thought ”why not”
Details entered & price given between £1900 & £2000

Pays to shop around.

Ordered a few replacements bits for daughters Mini. Nothing that’ll break the bank.

The headlamps are a little faded/yellow. Any recommendations for a restoration product?

Thoughts please. TIA

That’ll work mate. All these kits are pretty similar, some different grades of wet n dry and a polish.

If you want a more permanent solution you can probably replace the lenses if you’re handy.

I’ve looked at replacement units but at £90ea seems silly on a 16 year old car. Didn’t know you can chance the lenses. I’m a bit handy so I’ll look into it.

I've had great results with the 3M kit, but the Holts one looks almost identical and cheaper-result!
Just make sure you keep it all well lubed during the rubbing down process;)

I used the Holts one on my L200. Results good but you do need to be careful around the edges as its easy to mark bumpers, etc. (ask me how I know  )
Masking didn't seem to work with the amount of water needed.

Thanks matey.

Tbh the Mini headlamp unit is so easy to remove once bonnet is up I’ll do just that. Easier to do the task on the workbench.

Might do the rear units too as they’re a little dull.

As above, have used the 3M kits which are the leader for quality and all that, but that kit should be fine for what it is :thumb:

£14 well spent - will take years off the look of the car

Like this pal. Again though - polishing will look almost as good. Just thought I’d mention the option though. :)

Thanks mate. But the car is tge 2007 R56. All the lenses available are from 2009 onwards. 🤷‍♂️

Shame as I’d rather fit new ones than restore the old.

Funny you say that - I've realised that I will go to quite extreme lengths to ensure things are at waist height to avoid stooping down when working on them! 👴

Yeah Steve, I do it all the time, even out on jobs. Trestles out, a few scaffolding planks. Set up a lil work station. Save the back. 🥳

Engine bay of the Mini need some attention. Doubt it’s ever been cleaned since it left the factory.

What the best product to opt for? I’m not wanting to steam clean, just a spray n wipe kinda thing.

TIA

I’ve always used Autoglym Engine Cleaner. Just spray onto cold engine, brush over then hose off.
