Hi all

My dad is interested in a W204 Pre-facelift C-Class (2007/57) that has the right colour combo and is reasonably priced. The C-Class does not have Comand installed and comand is defo needed in the car. I am seeking advice on retrofitting a genuine factory comand system in the car from a specialist company.

I have seen a company called Autologics Ltd, who are Mercedes comand retrofit specialists and can come to your house/work place and install the comand system. They also offer a 12-Month warranty for the comand system.

Would anyone recommend this company for this job and has anyone had any experiences dealing with this company and getting comand installed? Also, are there any side effects for retrofitting a comand system to a W204 and are there any limitations to getting a full factory finish (e.g factory finish GPS aerial etc...)?

A question about the comand system. This company charges extra if a 6-CD Disc changer is wanted - Can a SD Card be used to transfer music files to the navigation hard drive?

Also, can anyone advise on what the little round object is, behind the centre console grill (before the screen cover/flap) ?

Many thanks and all advice appreciated.

You can add Navigation 20 to the standard Audio 20. This would give navigation with 7 digit postcode input.

Comand NTG4 only has 5 digit postcode input. The unit comes in two models with single cd or with built in 6 disc changer. It has a PCMCIA slot that can be used to transfer music to the HDD music register.

For retrofit you need the NTG4 unit, new screen, gps antenna. An internal GPS antenna is used when retrofitting Comand. The NTG4 unit and screen can be bought on ebay. You need the retrofit kit on the link below and will need STAR coding.

Retrofit Kit for COMAND NTG4 in W204 C Class - Right Hand Drive | W204 C & GLK Class, W212 new E class, W207 E class coupe | COMAND Retrofit parts | Mercedes Retrofits | Comand Online Ltd

Comand.co.uk in Lightwater, Surrey are highly recomended and can do the install and coding for you.

Many thanks for your valuable information. I though about adding navigation to the Audio 20 but can't resist the great looks of the comand screen in the interior.

The company I mentioned previously (Autologics LTD) include the whole kit + comand system and installation service for £899 - e.g. dash vents, navigation unit etc... which saves the hassle of buying the kit myself. Since Autologics send an engineer to install the comand system, it's more convenient. I have seen companies like Comand.co.uk and Braybrooks but they are far from my location.

I would check to see they install the ducts and fans that are required to stop the unit from cooking. Alfie/Mark from comand.co.uk seem to be the authority on this and often post on here.

+ 1 Comand Online. highly recommended.

Ask the company you want to retrofit the system the following questions: -

a) Will they install the hidden fan system to cool the unit. Yes, it is necessary in hot weather many don't bother as it won't give you immediate problems
b) Will they update the car's data-card at Mercedes to show the COMAND has been retrofitted (if they don't if a dealer does a software update on the car as part of the servicing, you end up with no navigation, also its better if it is correct for future parts supply, resale etc)
c) Will they configure the instrument cluster so you get the 'Navigation' display there (which gives you turn by turn instructions)

Theres lots of other questions, but those are the 3 that are important to get all the features and no significant problems later

Cheers

Richard

ps - note that the dash vents are different to the hidden fan system, the dash vents are just new vents with an additional switch to operate the display

Richard, many many thanks for your trusted info. I am aware that for the comand retrofit in a W204, a Comand Retrofit Kit is needed for the installation - it includes things like the new dash vents and fan+ducting etc... - I will defo ask them about this kit and the other questions you have listed.

Richard, just for reference, could you message me your prices for a comand retrofit in a Mercedes W204 pre-facelift?

Much appreciated.

outcome?

Well what did you do. Did you have it fitted and by who? I'm considering the same

Nothing at all. My dad ended up buying a S-Class instead with all bells and whistles.

I did manage to ring Auto logics Ltd at the time and the catches are listed below:

1. They install refurbished Command units not brand new units
2. They don't install the full kit as suggested by Richard (air ducts, fans etc..)
3. They don't update the data card

Hence their low low price.

I would recommend Command Online for a genuine trustworthy job as they are very reputable and helpful member in this forum.
