glojo said:I hate to confess that both our vehicles have 'sort of' treasured numbers, they are K8/K9 with our initials. They mean nothing to anyone apart from ourselves and were both purchased direct from DVLA. Neither are altered or adapted in the spacing and they stop the keeping up with those people that have to have new cars. Ours are 'K' reg
I have purchased K7 (again with his intials) for my son as a Christmas present, all I have to do now is find out how to do the transfer without actually going to the local office. (I cannot get out, and I want it as a surprise)
Bye for now,
John
Dieselman said:I don't see how you will be able to transfer the K7 plate without your son knowing as the registration document and RFL licence have to be handed in at time of transfer. Also the insurance cover needs to be changed.
The best route is probably to have the plates made and to give your son the retention certificate...unless others know differently.
Aswall said:John, he can take the necessary documents to your local Vehicle Registration Office (think that's what it's called) and get it changed over while he waits. Might have to queue for an hour so with the traders but it can all be done the same day
Dieselman said:I did mine like this. It took about ten minutes and I put the plates on the car in the carpark, then phoned my insurers.
A-AvantGarde said:Hope this helps, let me know if you want to know any more, I've done quite a lot of transfers & retentions as I've got more 'cherished plates' than I have cars! (Sounds crazy, but they'll come in useful one day!!!)

mrfiepro said:I really enjoyed the whole experience and was amazed at what people pay for for these numbers, AR53NAL went for £36,000 and another plate just before mine went for £50,000.
I think in America you can choose the letters for a small fee (nothing like £36,000!) as long as the word is not offensive. I knew someone whose brother took his Boxter to America and got the plate bollox (after several other words were rejected).starts getting like the american system then though, where you can have whatever you like on your plate as long as you pay, I think !
sym said:You wouldn't really need to mis-space AR 53 NAL in order to get it though !
Good point though - if the use of the word was authorised, then it would be very memorable, and easy to locate the owners details if needed .... starts getting like the american system then though, where you can have whatever you like on your plate as long as you pay, I think ! S.
