Anyone used Kwikfit for AC regas?

If you can wait, ATS always have an offer via Groupon. I have used them a few times in the past and it normally comes to around £30 incl bacterial clean

I’m baking Bob! I’ll melt away if I wait any longer :D

Why not just buy cars that do not need so much regular attention?:D:D:D

I know I know... :D I don’t do this on purpose David..! :D

Well looks like I need a new AC pressure switch..... so another call to MB

Sure about that?

From memory, I thought the air con system goes into self defence mode if it's low on refridgerant, and switches itself off. Evidenced by a flashing red light on the air conditioning switch. Yes, you (ie. Kwikfit or Halfords) need to put refrigerant in, but then you just need to clear the fault code on STAR or and OBD2 reader, and "poof" the compressor will start working again. No new physical switch etc required. Takes ten minutes at most to connect the OBD2, and clear the fault.

(The whole self defence mechanism is there to stop your air con compressor churning for hours / days / weeks / months on end, if there's no refrigerant in the system)

Maybe I've misunderstood your comment, but if you were really low on refrigerant, that's the self protection mode on your E class kicking in.

Hey Ash, I’ll probably end up going to your guy once I have the new switch fitted. It’s about £50 from MB and 1/2hr labour

So it’s defo £24? Seems a steal! No idea how he’s doing it for that price!?
Thanks for the recommendation

Let me double check with him, went to school with him so I’m lucky enough to get a speedy (ish) reply

Hi,

It turns out it wasn’t low on refrigerant in the end, it had 600g in it (which is perfect) at least this means there’s no leaks :) I cleared the codes using my CarSoft and no improvement. it still thinks there is no refrigerant in it, I think its the pressure switch :)

Cheers mate, would appreciate that. Abs

You're right, sir. You were already "on it like a bonnet."

Wow bargain! Any issues with them using gas reclaimed from scrap cars though? After all for the sake of £36 I don’t want any issues later :)

Part of the depollution process. He said it’s £24 for regas, they’ll check there’s any in there first and then charge it up, but if there’s any underlying problems then it’s still £24

Seems fair enough!

I did today they were brilliant and cheap as well.
£59 all in brought my range rover straight after to do it as well.

I use a mobile guy who is very good, does the full service for £60 now. Used to be £30 last year! Apparently the price of the gas has jumped though!

Just hesitant to use him as I’d have to pay regardless even if it didn’t work, unlike Kwikfits promise... :)
That's nothing. In about 8 years time when someone takes his 2017 pride and joy for an air con service he had better be sitting down when the bill comes. The new gas is massively more expensive R1234yf is currently twice the price of R134a , prices might drop when it is used more widely, but unlikely.

All sorted, new pressure switch fitted and AC regassed! Ice cold :)

Thanks guys! :)
