Anyone With No Dealer Warranty?

Agreed, indy specialists have their own reputation to uphold, or lose business.
Manufacturers' dealers have the name to lean on, and the 'captive' customer-base of new car owners to keep them going...

Was this a main dealer or or independent car dealership warranty ?

It was a local independent dealer - i looked at 3 from different garages & finally went for the white one as they agreed to a 12 month warranty & they had their own well renowned workshop - other than the 2 issues it's been fault free.

My main dealer warranty doesn't cover coolant leak / loss ( I've a well documented leak from the M157) and I've been far from impressed with any experience with MB...

What cooling issue on the M157 or do you mean the cars pre split cooling?

I’ve heard good things about warranty wise (the one that Quentin Wilson backs). But personally I would self insure and just keep some money aside for the what if scenario...

I have had to top up the expansion tank 3-4 times in the last year with it failing a pressure test.
The leak is from the turbo coolant pipes that enter the block beneath the water pump. Coolant crystals are visible and this appears to have been happening for some time.
Not yet sure if it is leaking o-ring or micro crack in the plastic components.
There is no shortage of evidence regarding the problems with these plastic cooling components on the M157 but more commonly they break up on higher milage cars.
I think it's a bit shit that a coolant leak is not covered as part of the MB coverage, no mind an engine that has has 26k and been 'looked' after by MB throughout.
In fact the longer this goes on, the more I'm beginning to regret paying the premium from buying from MB as the hassle of going back and forth just takes much time, with no results.
I've written to MB about this as well as the leaking cam covers but against my wishes it is going back to the supplying dealer this week for them to look at it.

Thanks for the info. Never seen any posts about it. Do you have any you could share?

Same re the cam covers.

I know the sensors can leak oil into the loom but the cam covers is new to me.

More from looking on MBworld.org than any specific links.
They seem happier to DIY resulting in posting and a bit of info.

I got a years warranty from MB when I bought my old SLK55. I never bothered renewing it. In the next 7 years of ownership, the only unexpected bill was when a crank position sensor went pop. Unfortunately I was in the Netherlands at the time, but luckily there was a dealer close by, it was fixed quickly (and they lent me a car FOC while mine was in) and I got charged the not unreasonable sum of 250 EUR. I reckon I saved myself a packet on warranties.

Cheers,

Gaz
