As above, have just got a W203 Coupe and the keen to be able to scan/read fault codes on the various modules.

Other than those cheap chinese code readers that can only access the engine control module, is there any other way of accessing/reading codes? I have read briefly about ELM chips and using your pc to read/clear the codes - is this the only way to do it?

I can't imagine Mercedes will make it as easy as some other manufacturers where their readers are basically a resistor in a box.

Toque app. Try the ree version first to check compatible( paid version gives more info) plus cheap Bluetooth OBD2

Note though that nothing will compare with a 'good' engineer with a star diag.

Don't forget that codes are only half the info. Live data is what is required most of the time. Not all code readers pull every code too.

As BlackC55 said..

However if you do want to read the codes - e.g. to make sure the dealer is not telling you stories - then The Autel Maxidiag EU702 can also read and reset fault codes on MB-specific components (SBS/ESP & SRS/Airbag system) in addition to the standard engine and transmission ODBII.

It is an old model so will only read cars from 1998 to around 2006-2008 (depending on the car's model)

If the car has an OBD II socket then most OBD II readers will be OK. If it has the proprietary 38 pin socket, then you are limited to far less scanners.

You can buy adapters that will connect the 38 pin to the scanner. They are available from eBay for about £6.
