Wondering if anyone can help with this?

I collected a Vito from a dealership in Wolverhampton back in October (factory Order). The van was fairly loaded but the salesman suggested deleting the £400.00 Sat Nav because the newer Vito's have Apple CarPlay as standard and I could just use my phone for Sat Nav as and when. I agreed to the £400.00 saving.

I left the dealership and at my next stop tried to connect phone to Apple CarPlay. it connected right away then failed. Cut a long story short sometimes it connects, and when it does it fails between around 10 seconds and 5 minutes. It's impossible to use for directions. (or anything really)

I only had chance to book it in with local dealership last on Friday. They did a software update and said it was fixed. Before I left I gave it a try and the connection failed instantly. Phone is iPhone 13 mini (which works fine in the car) and leads are genuine Apple and also tried aftermarket. I returned into dealer and she suggested me contacting the suppling dealer for a fix (400 mile round trip, not gonna happen). She said it's a known issue with the new head-unit on the facelift Vito (old was 5" screen, new is 7" touchscreen). Incidentally the exact same thing happens with Wifes and Daughters iPhone

I don't need Sat Nav very often BUT I hate having anything that doesn't work properly. It REALLY annoys me to have paid so much money for a new van that's already cost me a days wage and still not fixed.

HOLD function also stopped working and ILS was out of action. Passenger side door speaker stopped working (all 3 back up and running)

Sorry to hear this. If it's "a known issue" then hopefully it will get fixed with a software update at some point.

You have several legal options here, BTW, but they are probably not worth pursuing, because if there's really no fix at current, then the legal route will likely be time consuming and cause much inconvenience as the only possible outcome will be to reject the vehicle, which I don't think you want to do.

Yeah it’s an option but having sold my old van, racked out and signed the new one it’s not really an option. 😖

Ford transit lead times were/are ridiculously long. Had one ordered for 6 months and in all that time the order never progressed from ‘confirmed’ to ‘committed’ 🙈🙉

Sorry to hear about your woes, hopefully u will get it sorted. I am not sure the adapter will work, but I could be wrong, I haven’t got one, but I think it works just like a usb cable, but with the adapter it’s plugged into to the usb port, and you pair the phone to the adapter.

Thanks for that. 1st world problems obviously but Bloomin annoying.

Just carried out a quick search. Around £63

iPhone Wireless Carplay Adapter, Wireless Carplay Dongle Converts Factory Cars Wired Carplay to Wireless, iPhone Carplay Bluetooth Adapter, 5Ghz WiFi Auto-Connect Online Update, Support iOS 13-16 https://amzn.eu/d/bf2CJkv

If I’m honest I doubt it’ll work either. Both phone and lead work perfectly in the car so I’m assuming an adapter won’t help much. It’s got to be an issue within the van. 🤷‍♂️

Sorry to read this Ant, because it’s a cracking van. Was your local dealership suggesting that you contact the supplying dealer to fix the issue or to come to some sort of financial agreement?

If it’s to fix, then I’m not sure that you should need to go back to them. If you bought second hand and something was broken at time of purchase then absolutely, but not on a brand new car.

I can understand why they would want to point you back at the supplying dealer though if it will be a long and difficult fix.

Cheers Rob,

I get your point. I think they suggested contacting supplying dealer to fix the issue. But as I said, not really going to happen with the distance involved. As far as I'm aware my local dealer will be paid by MB for any time/parts needed to carry out a fix? I thought it strange that they even suggested contacting them. (incidentally my local dealer (Ciceley Commercails, Carlisle) priced this van originally and I was very keen to order but the salesman was just so unreliable in everything he did (failing to return my calls, answer emails. I turned up for a test drive on the agreed day and he'd took the demo home the night before and driven his wife's car to work!) I got fed up and looked elsewhere.

It's honestly a pest. needed to find 5 address's today, connecting to CarPlay was very 'hit and miss'. When it did, it lost connection every time. Wishing now I'd have just paid for the Sat Nav!

Rejecting the van at this stage is not an option. I can see me going down the route of an aftermarket Head unit.

Would really appreciate @Alfie or/and @richard 's opinion on a possible fix (aftermarket or otherwise). Happy to travel to get this sorted

...I think they suggested contacting supplying dealer to fix the issue...

I would hazard a guess that this is because once you told them that the salesperson at the supplying dealer advised you to omit the Navigation option from the new car order, the problem has the potential of becoming an issue covered under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (or contract law, if a business purchase) and needs to be dealt with by the supplying dealer, rather than a simple warranty issue that can be sorted by any dealer.

Oooo look at you all posh.

During my day you were lucky to have a floor without holes in our vans and eazi start was the order of the day , each day every day

Joking aside, sometimes working is more bloody annoying than not working at all

Cheers for that.

My local dealership aren’t aware that the supplying dealer advised saving the pennies by not ticking the Sat Nav box.

They are aware that the supplying dealer was informed the Apple CarPlay was problematic on the homeward bound journey.

A Posh Manc??? How very dare you!

Yeah. Would be easier if it didn’t work at all rather than ‘Hit n Miss’

😖

Ant does the dealer have another genuine cable you can try? The MMI cable in my wife’s car is temperamental, if I remember right the first one was iffy from the off, and the other one became iffy after 6 or 7 years but now if more offy than iffy. Unfortunately I’ve been waiting for a new one for months!

I ordered a genuine cable from the Apple Store a few days after I returned home mate. And have tried a few brand new variants since. All with same outcome.

What I have noticed today though is if I manage to connect and just leave on Home Screen (the one with all the apps showing) it seems to stay connected.

However, once I get Google or Apple maps loaded and working it seems to trigger a disconnection after between 5 seconds to 5 minutes.

If it wasn’t for the fact that wife and daughters phone behaves the same I’d think my phone was at fault.

You may have seen this already, but have a look at fix 2 and 3 here:

I don’t think what I’m about to write will be the solution as you said you tried two other phones, but it may not hurt to try…

I had similar poor connection issues, was driving me insane. Turned out to be fluff build up in the lightning port on the phone. So it would connect, but the connection was not solid enough to cope with any real data transfer. I dug the fluff out with the sim ejector tool/paperclip and that was sorted.

Other one that prohibited me on another vehicle was checking carplay was allowed while the phone was locked/usb restriction off when phone was locked.
