2016 Mercedes Bens CLA 180 AMG
Hello everyone,

I have recently purchased a 2016 CLA 180 AMG which comes with Apple Carplay installed. However, this only works intermittently as one day it will work and the next day it wont recognise my device which is an iPhone 8. In order to get it working again I ether have to restart my phone or re-pair my phone with the car but even that does not work all the time.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Also have a 2016 CLA and mine seems to be fine every time. Only thing to check are the usb port being used, make sure its the one with the logo. The cable, in case it’s faulty at all and the port on the phone in case its clogged up. Otherwise a potential bad connection maybe

There is a car play tab under settings - general. Only thing i can see that would stop it in there is the ‘allow carplay while locked’ not being activated

Thank you JACK5255,

I have tried these settings previously like you advised but still having issues. It maybe a faulty connection somewhere like you said. I will keep playing around with it but if all else fails may have to take into a Mercedes garage for them to take a look.

no problem. Nothing i can think of otherwise that would cause it really but others on here may be able to help, a lot of knowledge around!

maybe try the other usb socket and see if its providing a constant charge etc?

Mine used to play up in my previous car, I was using a lead from Tesco.
Changed to an Apple Certified one and it was fine after that.

IPhone prone to dirt ingress in the lightening connector socket. It may charge OK - but other functions could be effected. You can use a bent paperclip to fish out the debris - don’t be afraid to be quite forceful doing this. Hope that helps.
