Apple carplay

Hi. I am new here.

Did anyone of you guys installed apple carplay in your e class using the original screen?

I can’t find any answers on the internet or youtube. I have merc e class w212 2011 but I cannot find answer if it’s gonna work and if it’s hard to install it.

I would very appreciate any help.

There are Apple CarPlay add-on kits, www.comandonline.co.uk sell them, and they do work with the original MB screen, but the issue is that the original MB screen isn't a touch screen so using Apple CarPlay with the arrows or controller knob works but it is a bit counter-intuitive.

Replacing the original screen with a touch screen isn't a must as such, but it resolves the issue mentioned above.

Some after-market kits come with a stick-on film that adds touch screen functionality to the original MB screen (thus avoiding the need to replace it), but they can look a bit awkward so not generally recommanded.

The add-on Apple CarPlay kits do come with installation instructions, but you'll need to be comfortable with the idea of removing the head unit and other internal trim bits, as well rewiring.
