Help please! :o :o

Bought my daughter an Apple iBook for use at University - its been fine except -

It comes able to play different region code DVD's - but you can only change the region code so many times, apparently. She has discs from the UK and the USA, and must have overdone it..

Now, whatever region disc is inserted, produces the message -
This is the last time you will be able to alter region code

When you try to do so it produces an Error message, and no discs from whatever region will play :(

Any help will be gratefully received! :)

Not a problem !

Under os X there is utility to change number of times left for region change. First of all you need to make dvd rpc1 compatible and then you can make as many changes as you want. If you need more help send me a pm

Regards

Is this a software hack? Will this have any effect on the warranty?

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that changing a DVD drive from RPC2 to RPC1 requries that the drive be patched with hacked firmware into its chips. To all intents and purposes it changes the drive from being region specific with just 5 changes allowed, before permanent settings are burnt in, to being a Region 0 drive.

Guy,

Take a look at the following site, and have a search for Mac OS tools, you may come up lucky:

There are plenty of tools that do what you require for the Windows OS, such as DVD43 or DVD Region-Free but I haven't a clue about Mac's I'm afraid.

Thanks Steve -

I did investigate yesterday, as far as my understanding would permit - what is required is to change to rpc1 by downloading an application, which it is said can be reversed if you need to get your iBook serviced...at that stage it was decided that having got it working on R2 discs was plenty good enough!

Not worth the risks for 6 US DVDs she has, particularly if the problem occurs while she's away.

Thanks again to all for help! :)
