Are any of your former cars still alive?

My 1981 TR7 convertible, which I bought nearly new, is still going strong. Although it is now black, as against the lovely original colour of Pharaoh Gold.
Happy days!

Do you know the whereabouts of, or what happened to any of your previously owned cars?

I've had a look on the MOT history page LINK and entered some of my former reg numbers.

Of course anything registered up to 1980 would no longer need MOTs or road tax. But looking back on mine (excluding company cars and spouse cars):

1971 Morris 1300 Mk2 - scrapped 1979, no records
1971 Vauxhall Viva HC 1100 L - sold 1980, tax was due 1983
1973 Vauxhall Viva HC 1800 SL - scrapped 1981, no records
1973 Triumph Dolomite 1850 HL - sold 1982, tax was due 1985
1975 Ford Granada 3.0 Ghia - sold 1983, tax was due 1984
1975 Fiat 126 - sold 1984, tax was due 1984
1977 Vauxhall Cavalier GL Coupe - sold 1987, tax was due 1989
1985 Austin Maestro 1.6 Vanden Plas - sold 1990, tax was due 2005
1989 Rover Montego 2.0 SL estate - sold 1998, tax was due 2000
1998 Vauxhall Sintra 2.2 CD - sold 2002, tax was due 2004

So most only lasted a few years after I sold them - the exception being the Maestro VDP (which was immaculate, in Moonraker Blue!). The Sintra is a surprise as that was only 6 years old when it stopped being taxed, it was 1 owner/low mileage/FSH/great condition when I sold it.

Then came my 2002 VW Sharan 2.8 V6 4Motion, which I sold in 2007. That's still on the road! MOT'd till October 2020 :thumb:

The 2002 VW Sharan 2.8 V6 4Motion is a bit of a guzzler, so an unlikely survivor, but obviously someone thinks it is worth keeping.

A good friend of mine had a Sharan that had carried all manner of building materials and related waste for years.
He loved that car for sentimental reasons as well as its ability to lug things around - he's a landlord with a fair few properties and it had done him proud until someone rear-ended it around 6 months ago. He's that attached to the Sharan, it's still on his driveway!

Moonraker Blue - That just has to be a nice colour.

I ran the Sharan as a 2-seater most of the time, with caging for the dogs in the back. I remember averaging under 10 mpg with it on the way to a show with the caravan on the back :D It was in top 'Carat' spec. with leather & Alcantara throughout ... 6-speed manual, and actually quite fun to drive. Sold it to get the Vito, which we still have.

The Maestro was actually a really nice car ... Moonraker Blue was one of the standard colours for the Rover SD1 Vitesse. I don't know whether Vanden Plas cars had a better paint finish but it was immaculate at 5 years old whereas the Montego estate I replaced it with had some serious rust at under 3 years old. Rover weren't interested, in the end I resorted to blue Hammerite on the exposed patches!

I've had a look on the MOT history page LINK and entered some of my former reg numbers.

The oldest of my previously owned cars that is apparently still breathing is my 1988 Sierra estate, F217 RRE.
I sold it to a family friend in around 1994/95.

What have you?
Our car - Mercedes C180 Classic 1998 S760HLG is still on the road, I would love to find out it’s whereabout, can anyone help?

Managed to find some old pics of some of the cars I’ve owned. In total I’m at about 45 cars 🙈🙈🙈but don’t have pics of everyone

My old BMW 540i is still on the road with 255k miles recorded at it's last MOT! I did over 130k of those miles during my ownership.

Of the first 10, only 2 are definitely still on the road.

1) '96 Punto hasn't been MoT'd in 11 years.
2) Replaced with a Fiat Bravo, I wrote off it by T-boning an MGF that pulled across in front of me.
3) I can't remember the reg of the 405 that replaced that but I'm sure it'll be scrapped by now.
4) Brand new Civic VTi that I put 150k on in 5 years, only lasted another 2 with its new owner.
5) C250TD, exported in 2007.
6) Alfa 75 v6 - broken for parts
7) Audi S6 is the first one that is still going, which is a miracle as it was so unreliable it went back to the dealers after a few months. It's now a garage queen covering less than 2k a year.
8) Integra DC5 got turned into a race car
9) E39 530d got exported to Ireland.
10) Civic FD2, still going at 12 years old/100k

Otherwise the rest are still around, except the self-immolating S8 and 2015's £400 stopgap Volvo that hasn't been MoT'd since the beginning of last year.

Interesting. My first Merc was a W124 260E, owned it for 3 years and p/x for a G wagen. Looked up the reg and low and behold it has not been taxed since then. 1994 ish. I am guessing it must have been exported.

The E28 was one of my favourites. We had ours for 13years. A great long distance cruiser. Sold it to someone who worked at the local BMW dealer where it was serviced. It died pretty soon after that. Not sure if it was mechanical or accident.

Hi , well I will see how good my memory is regarding cars in our family.

My dad always wanted Mercedes and Jaguars but my mum would let him buy them because they fast.Little did know how fast his Granada was ( factory order manual box )

This was the time when my mates dad Jaguar Mk 2 3.8 had a top speed 115 mph.

How cars have changed !

I still see my Mondeo Titanium X, in fact saw it today as I sold it my neighbours daughter. Still going strong on 190k miles. The Alfa GTV 2 litre I had was last motd in 2011 so assume that’s dead. The Vauxhall Signum I had is still going though seems to have failed every mot since I sold it in 2010. The concept was nice but i just didnt bond with it, and it was made of cheese. All my other cars are long gone. I spent the whole day on the Alfa today, off for mot and cambelts in a week. It still looks amazing for a 20 year old car, this one is definitely a keeper.

Do you know the whereabouts of, or what happened to any of your previously owned cars?

Now why would I want to do a silly thing like that? Who gives a toss? Do you really think I care about the Omega I used to own, and failed two tests on suspension components after I sold it (I knew that lower wishbone won't last!), before disappearing forever from the MOT check website? Or my previous W203, that is still going strong and recently reached 80,000 miles? No Siree, I do not care.

Built a street rod on a 1954 Ford Pop van in the late 70's. Revamped again by another owner and still on the road some 40 years later. Nearly 70 years of continuous use!

full

my old 16i is very much still alive and living in Brum I think, this was a fast ford feature from a while ago. Car was an absolute hooligan and I still miss it now.

I live in hope that one of the two Escort Mk1 Mexico’s or the Mk1 RS2000 I owned have survived. If they have, their current owners must be sitting on a small fortune. But to be honest my 998cc Rallye Imp would surely have to be the rarest of all....

A friend had 2 Mexicos and an RS2000 as well. As you say a fortune now!

That would be worth a few quid now. Did that have the lotus twink in it ?, I know the early ones did but they were just badged as ‘twin cam’ and not RS.
No, it was a full fat BDA. Used to spit flames from the carbs on old days but sounded fabulous under full throttle 😀
