Are CL500s (W215) money pits?

Have no fear in owning one.

I've spent less on my S500 than sty has spent on his E320 - and that includes me replacing a rear airmatic strut, pump and valve manifold.

A CL500 is a magnificent machine.

ABC mode on the CL is ok, but a CLS55 is a straight line rocket same as a CL, twisty fun stuff is for smaller lighter cars. However both are "fluid" which is delightful if you work at it on known roads. Even in my new bargain mode a CLS is off radar, but I will need 4 doors soon - ML raises its head.

i have been offered a cl500 this week year 2000 low milage as owner live abroad and this was his car for when he called into ireland

nice car lots of toys but the hydraulic suspension is playing up

what would the average price be for a year 2000 one

Hi, I've decided to part ways with my W reg 2000 CL500 after 2 1/2 years of mostly hassle free driving - the only problem that surfaced was as I looked to P/X at a dealer a couple weeks ago! sods law that when I wanted to sell the car decided to give me a fault. thankfully it was only the crank shaft sensor that went and after £165 and a trip to Taunton MB - who did a great job and actually gave the CL a glowing report its back up running beautifully. Makes me even more sad to letting it go knowing its such a great condition car. I've got it P/X'd for £3300, if that is any indication to you for price - I annoyingly turned down a £4500 offer back in january but I need a more economic car given my new job! So I went for a 2006 Audi A4 SE TDI.

Liverpool to Goodwood I got 29.8 mpg at average 65 mph both ways and I wasn't hanging about. Car was really comfy and kept me alert, only downside crappy none Bose music - weedy at speed.

I've been running a CL 500 for 6 years and have had absolutely no bother with it mechanically. It only needs servicing every 2 years. I had a small corrosion spot which MB sorted last year free of charge. It's quite heavy on tyres-I'm on Pirellis .I agree it will manage 29mpg on the motorway in 7 speed auto. It's a brilliant car and has never let me down or given me any aggrevation.
I'd highly recommend one

I've had my 2003 CL500 for just under 1 year, and have done 9000 miles in it and the only issue i've had was the crank position sensor went, which was fixed for £40! It's having a minor service next week for about £250 which is only £30 more than my 1-series BMW was serviced for last year... Bodywork is tight on mine, suspension works fine, and quick and every button still works. It had a keyless go issue when I bought it, but it was all repaired by the dealer before I collected it. Im currently looking at selling it for no other reason than I've had it a year and want something a bit newer, and am currently looking for a same-shape newer CL55k or similar!

I've had my 03 CL600 TT for 3 months now and so far I had 2 new lower control arms and ball joints (£500) and a secondary water pump (£160) changed. The original 9 y.o. battery died too (£170). All pretty much wear and tear items due to car's age and 80k on the clock. On the positive side, the car is super comfortable, very nimble and still looks great.

I'm just about to purchase a 2004 CL500 with 159k on the clock. Immaculate one owner full FMBSH for 5k. Got another 5k in the bank for repairs.
