Are Diesels slower in Winter?

I think you're confusing this with water which is at its most dense at 4 deg C

Air gets denser as the temperature drops.

hm mine, when its cold, its also more responsive, and ir more animalish makes some Rrrrrrr at higher rmps :) but when its cold, it dont like to go over 2k rpm so much :) so then i take it easy with her :D

My Volvo V70 diesel takes longer for the glow plugs to warm up when the ignition is switched on, on a cold morning, but once it's running it seems to go just as well as it does in warmer times.

I think I'm right in saying that the management system on a Merc holds the permissible acceleration back when the car is cold to let the engine/turbo/oil/transmission/exhaust all warm up gently, then it lets you go. Consequently there's less power with a cold car in colder weather.

I certainly think the fuel consumption is higher when its colder. On a run today thru to Edinburgh I did see a dip in MPG than when I normally go driving in the same manner.
