Hello all

I have a problem with my rear passenger side shocker thats causing a white "ABC - Vist Workshop" message to come on the dash. I have had it on STAR to find the following error:-

C1531-004 Left Rear Suspension strut moves although locking valve is closed

Most people i have spoken to say the valve in the strut is siezed and hence a new shocker will be required. However, not wanting to pay £1,100 + VAT for the shocker i have been looking for a used one. Found one that seems the right part but i have 2 issues with it?

1. The part number matches mine, but one of the other long numbers is out by one digit. Does this make a massive difference, if any?

2. My car is 2004 S55 kompressor, the shocker in question is off a 2004 CL65. This might explain the one digit being out???

Any help?

Thanks.

Just for info, the part numbers on my shocker are as follows. These are on the silver band at the bottom of the shocker:-

S55 - A220 320 18 38 1524 0010 2578

CL65 - A220 320 18 38 1524 0010 2576

As you can see the very last digit on the CL65 is 6 rather than 8. Im not even too sure what that numbers all about, but the main part number, starting with A220, is exactly the same.

The mercedes part number which is a220 320 18 38 is the number i would go by as this is the mercedes part number that the dealer would go by.

The other number might be a production number or something similar.

If in doubt if you want to pm me your chassis number i can look up the correct part number applicable to your car.

I had this on my CL600 I had a few years ago. The later shock did fit but I had to swap the top pipes over.

But personally I would order a replacement one from Arnott in the USA if you can wait for it? Much more sense.

Do they physically look the same? I took the gamble for the pre and post facelift and it worked perfectly.

I was thinking of ordering one from Arnott, but there seems to be 2 issues with them.

1. They want my old one back or an extra $300, which is a lot of faffing about.

2. They dont seem to ship internationally anymore.

Im not sure about the looks as mine is still in the car, but both cars in question are 2004, so both are facelift models.

I didnt think the pre and post facelift ones would be interchangeable but i guess it paid off for you if its only the tops that are different.

Thanks rk100, il check them out tomorrow morning. But it looks like they're a middle man for Arnott, as some of their listings have Arnott shocks.

It would be cost , plus post and packing plus insurance plus 7% duty (I think) plus 20% vat on the total .
