I really want a big Fokker Tri-Plane to hang from the ceiling. And/ or a Sopwith.

I've a few "Big Fokkers" that I want to hang from the ceiling..:devil::devil::devil::devil::devil: :D:D:D:D

"Brooks Was Here " Style...

Did that a few times in the Gulf, the SAR crews were always on the lookout for 'bodies' for their training flights. I worked shifts, so was often available. Two types of winching, one being dry winching, usually onto a wrecked ship, or under an overhang in the desert somewhere.

I was just winched from the airfield, but as the last to go I got a 'high rescue' ... simulating recovery from an area with obstructions like tall masts. As soon as I was on (just a simple strop on the end of the cable - can't see that passing health & safety nowadays!) the helo set off with me dangling far below. It took some time to be winched up whilst cruising gently round the countryside. Great fun :D

Hehe, I remember the glue melting the canopies. These days pva glue is the thing to use, applied with a cocktail stick. It dries clear and can be washed with water so any excess can be wiped with a q-tip ;)

10 years ago I built this kit as a commission for a guy who was obsessed with Adolf Garland. His specifications were the aircraft had to represent said Luftwaffe ace's BF109 as it was in mid December 1940, wheels up and 'clean', no flaps, ailerons moved etc. (no idea why) I was being paid handsomely for it so I wasn't asking!
Once done, I thought for a joke I'd photograph it looking like it was flying down the firth. Some folk even believed me when I told them a 109 had flown down the firth!! ;)

My dad worked in advertising and was also a semi-pro photographer. He needed some pictures of a 1930s airliner for a travel agency account, so I built a model of a Handley Page H.P.42 and he took some 'flying' shots of it in the front garden :) That's as near to a commission as I ever came :D The shots actually looked pretty good.

Does anyone remember the ill fitting and "Wibbly Wobbly "Stand that you used to get with the kits, to make it look as though it was landing/flying? I hated them, never wanted to glue the model to the stand.. in case I wanted to "fly" around the room ha ha!

So, I built a German E Boat, the Airfix Kind, a lovely kit, a lot of detail. I took my time over it and it turned out well, I was really chuffed. I put it on top of my bookcase out of the way so nothing would happen to it (my mom had a habit of breaking parts off them etc) So one day my dad came in and asked if I would move my boats as an engineer would need up in the loft to check the heating. I moved them along the shelf passed the manhole thinking this would be enough.. up went my dad and the engineer.. the engineer got down ok, but my dad being the older gent, a bit stiffer etc came down without looking and ** Massive Crunch** you've never seen an E boat live, in the flesh sink... the bow and the stern came up in the middle to meet as his big bloody doughtramper stood on the boat.. God only knows how he found it, I swear it was done deliberate...:(

I remember the stands - especially the Airfix ones

Some of us are that sad that we have a display dedicated to our favourite marks of Spitfire. In my case the PR MK19 depicting one of the BBMF Spits and a MK9 I converted into the Grace T MK9 Spitfire ML407 that I flew in!

... I'll fetch my anorak now shall I!! ;)

^ Not at all, these are fantastic.. beautiful even. Did you make them what kits did you use along with how did you make the Twin Cockpit..

Verrrryyy Nice Indeed though..
Thank you. They are both Tamyia 1:48 kits. I ordered the BBMF decal sheet from a supplier (Hannants) and I also obtained a spare cockpit and canopy for the MK9. I converted it myself and made up the OU V letters of the 485 Sqn from spare stuff.
The Spitfire PR 19 was one of the fastest Spits, clean, 2000hp, brutal sounding Griffon up front, yet so elegant.
The MK9 was the most produced, a beautiful aeroplane.

The BBMF Pm631 in that scheme - a few moons ago now....

On the subject of some of my favourite aircraft, had to carry out some emergency repairs on the starboard undercarriage leg this afternoon on my 1:24 Mozzie. (cats and large Model aircraft don't always mix!). Tumblers, blu-tac and cocktail sticks can be most useful in times like this.
...what a masterpiece of engineering these aircraft were.
Trouble is this particular model is so big there isn't a cabinet in the place to house it. So it is a true dust collector!
Anyway thought it might be of interest to fellow aircraft enthusiasts, so a few images. Built this 10 years ago. I've put in a hand to give an idea of the size of the darn thing!

That is a fabulous bit of model making skill right there. I love the detail of the armaments etc. The entire kit looks superb. Who manufactures this one?

Thanks, it's Airfix's offering. I have added some detailing and weathering but you can go mad with it and noone see half of it.
This one has both Merlin present with tiny electric motors in. You'll see the wires and switch there. I never got round to installing this into a mini trolly ack. ;)
