Does that really matter?

The FTSE seems to be dominated by banks and retailers, so money lenders and importers, how many of the top 100 companies actually generate genuine growth for out nation?

Mervyn King: this may be worse than the Great Depression - Business News, Business - The Independent

"One of the reasons China's production industry is so successful is that they have a state bank which provides cheap finance to manufacturers. Similar circumstances helped to create Germany's "Wirtschaftswunder" before the political gaggle presently in Berlin got out of the asylum. Provide money for manufacturing industry, training and infrastructure. Make what you and others need instead of paying China to do it. Do not give the money to robber banks. And tell the woodentop at the Bank of England that it is not his job to make loud gloomy predictions in a casino economy. Can somebody please explain to him what a self-fulfilling prophecy is"

they should use that 75 billion and open a bank of britain, which is a public organisation and lends exclusivley to british citizeans, that would get the economy growing.

I always associate the term " invisible earnings" with the financial sector. Perhaps we are about to find the term has actually a literal meaning . Here's a little blast from the past around the time that ceremonial mace wielding financial wizard Michael Heseltine was President of the Board of Trade INVISIBLE EARNINGS: COMPOSITION OF INVISIBLES

They (imply) they know what they're doing, but its out of their control and sure its a complicated system.
If they really understood they would know what to do. If they dont understand they shouldn't tell us they do and stop doing it.
They're playing chess with us all.

Sad thing is, to re create demand for consumers, growth etc, and take are minds of all this complicated nonsense, when things have been this bad before, there has historically been a war .

I wonder who it will be this time. ?

They're weathermen.

And unlike meteorologists their weather system responds to their predictions with 'sentiment' that then affects the weather.

I came across this definition on another site. I thought it was very helpful.

quantitative easing is just swapping monetary aggregates in an attempt to boost liquidity and the velocity of money and hence to stop a deflationary spiral.

Got that?

therefore -

printing money = inflation = reduction of the value of the amount we owe, whilst also reducing the value of what we have?

Am I close?

i think most of our debt will be in dollars as it's the world reserve currency so reducing the value of the pound doesn't always reduce what we have, at least in relation to the countries debt.

fUNNY YOU SHOULD SAY THAT.
i HEARD A RUMOUR (SEVERAL YEARS AGO) Whoops caps off.

That was the 'real' reason for the war in iraq. As the french were doing a lot of oil deals they were persuading sadam to be paid in euro.

But the inflation itself also reduces the value of what we have, and US debt reduces the value of the Dollar as well......

We're doomed

Serious disability - she (you on her behalf,) can get full attendance allowance.
The other option is disability living allowance, which come in three stages.
It can get complicated but you need to apply.
When you do, you are eligible to claim for carers allowance. This give you some cash (only if your not working) but helps in other ways ie. reduced council tax etc. But your wife can also benefit by other help, social services can provide carers for help with cooking, washing etc. Then there's mobility allowance (payments for a car, adaptations etc. ) and Occupational support for hand rails and 'functional help.

You must get advice and the help you need. Nasty things strokes, Make sure your wife gets her neck scanned for blockages or anything likely to break off assuming she didnt have an aneurysm. To explain briefly, Corotid artery bifurcates, this is where build up occurs mostly. Bits break off get washed up to the brain and block blood vessals. The blood clots which cause even more. Without blood and Oxygen sections of the brain die. You can get an ultrasound scan to see how bad it is. Also ask for an HDL LDL homocysteine level check. Make sure she eat lots of B12, folic acid, and potassium rich foods, :bannana: which will help repair artery damage.
A couple of minor corrections.

Attendance allowance and Disability allowance are the same thing. DLA becomes AA when you hit 65.

To claim carers allowance your partner must be currently recieving DLA at mid or high levels before application of carers.

Council tax benefit is means tested only and has little to do with other benefits apart.

Mobility is part of the DLA application and is not means tested.

Read here and complete the DLA application asap - they can only say no.

Disability Living Allowance - rates and how to claim : Directgov - Money, tax and benefits

Also make an application for Incapacity Benefit.

Mrs Red C220 has Multiple Sclerosis for 14 years, I've filled in more forms and had more conversations about this than most people have had hot dinners.

Vitamin B12 is very very poorly absorbed when taken oraly to a degree that it's almost entirely pointless taking it. If you have a deficiency of B12 then talk to your Doc about getting a course of injections - be warned though, once started you cannot stop them and the injection is quite painful.

It seems to me to be a bit like a failing company. How's this scenario, and see if there are any similarities ...

No cash reserves in the bank but everyone at the top in the company gets paid well and gets a bonus.
The workers are asked to stay at home with out pay because there are no orders so management employ a few scabs to do the repetitive low paid work, while the skilled workers sit at home.
Because the company is on hard times all its prices have gone up.
There's no (actual ) money because there has been no sales, So the md puts a few quid in the cash float to pay the lunch time bar bill. Of course this will all come out of the workers pay when they get any, but they wont ever see any of it.
Eventually the company will be bought out and taken over. But if not the workers will strike or be laid off permanently. The building will suffer and fall into disrepair. The staff will nick all the plants and sell off any stock.
In twenty years when its all been forgotten, Tesco will come along and build a car park for its new store and sell the rest of the site to a developer who will build a block of flats. These will be rented by the workers who still have no jobs. The rents will be paid for by benefits. They will then call this growth and everyone will be happy.

The End.
Missed a bit out there - before the company is taken over or wound down, all the directors take redundancy (to protect their payments) while at the same time telling the employees that there is nothing to worry about and that the pension scheme is perfectly safe. Then they leave and there is nothing left for the workers.
Apart from that, almost spot on.

Like wise and thanks for the link. Also to add, most important, I should also have included B6 as well as B12. An example to read why Homocysteine Reduction - Homocysteine, Homocysteine Levels - Life Extension Health Concern

But please dont be negative regarding B12 uptake, it may put someone off taking it. True doctors have always claimed it has low absorption rate but that doesnt mean people shouldnt bother taking a supplement. Not everyone eats the proper diets and its quite rare in many foods. But is worth taking and does no harm http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/reprint/171/3/251.pdf

Only the amount paid is the same. For anyone UNDER 65 its not the same. As many people are not disabled enough or meet all the criteria to get full AA but may still claim DLA components even at the lower rate

To claim carers allowance your partner must be currently recieving DLA at mid or high levels before application of carers.

Council tax benefit is means tested only and has little to do with other benefits apart.
So does mean anyone who gets carers allowance (not spouse and only one person can claim) or Attendance Allowance and is cared for by say a son or daughter or neighbour can apply for a discount or reduction of council tax

They just 'agree' to buy stocks and Gov. bonds.
Dont forget its all fictional. As a credit note or an iou. The cash itself only has the value it costs to print. And they wont be printing any.

Does your head in doesnt it. :wallbash:

This is still vague and no more than is spouted by the many economic "experts" on TV.

However, Who agrees to buy stock?

What stock do they buy?

Where does the money actually enter circulation?

This fries my noodle completely.

This part of the thread is now way off topic but here are a few links:-

Attendance Allowance : Directgov - Money, tax and benefits

What is Vitamin B12 deficiency? | B12 Deficiency Patient Support Group

Really, the B12 thing is an odd one. Look at the research they did in Japan, as a side effect of chosing to elevate B12 base levels across the population they almost entirely eradicated Dimentia and Alzheimers.

Taken orally it will cirtainly do no harm, but a good 99.9% of it will be passed through the bladder. Sub cutaneous really is the only way to introduce substantial amounts into the system.
