Personally I think prison is a tough sentance for any motoring offence but I can see why he has be jailed as the conditions sound truly terrible for the speeds attained in the car-especially as he should know better, and the proof of the pudding was he did crash the car.

Amazing to think he survived a 100mph crash. Lucky in one respect, but prison for a police officer, not so lucky.

A very silly boy. Career gone to pot - and lucky to have escaped with his life.
He will certainly have plenty of time to reflect on his actions while standing in the job seekers queue.

I'm not surprised he was jailed for what happened as without doubt it was a top-end case of Dangerous Driving. He knew that if you are in the Public Service, particularly when upholding the law as a member of the Police, he would always come under the closest scrutiny and he should always have conducted himself to the highest degree  As a Traffic Cop I'm sure he would have investigated any motorist who had driven in the same manner to the full and expected the Courts' system to punish that driver appropriately.

Whilst I do agree with the sentence I know it is likely he will suffer in prison more than the average punter and I do sympathise with him in that respect:crazy: It does send a message out and I do think he's been made an example of.

I am glad he has been treated just like any other member of the public and I applaud the police for not "burying" this.

Given the speeds involved and the fact that his car left the road he's lucky to be alive and lucky not to have killed someone...

idle currisoty, as his car had a black box fitted, say there was no RTA but still the same manner of driving, would there be a prosecution. In other words do the police monitor the usage of their cars all the time, or only in the event of a crash/evidence required etc

They certainly don't monitor all of their cars all of the time - some will have data recorders, others will have Sat-Track, others nothing at all.

"We understand that the officer is appealing part of the process and therefore as the judicial proceedings are still ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

other than to say **@t..

Interesting that those two forces fit "overt" devices. There are others who fit them to some vehicles and it is not clear which have and which haven't got them - no doubt with policies that tell all drivers that there may be one in the vehicle.

Another point is that they are fitted by the manufacturer - suggesting that they are a pretty simple installation. I know that VW could download large amounts of data when I took a look at the service system attached to a Polo that had never been driven at more than 50mph...

Just a matter of time before detailed data recorders are standard on all cars?

Police already have access to read what information is available when they seize a vehicle they suspect has been involved in an offence.

Live by the sword, die by the sword?

If it's like Lord Ahmed, he'll be out of jail in 6 days.

I know I harp on about it (sorry) but when out with Traffic my main man (the police chappie) spoke about the IDR that was fitted to the Volvo and that when first utilised, they were continually being set off by regular & routine 'spirited driving' requiring the reset by the workshops (and the investigation by a senior officer). The tolerances within the systems were therefore adjusted to avoid undue activation
