Walking home from work in the cold winds, I wondered how much people (your household) spent on their car(s) and modifications/accessories, expressed as a percentage of their (household) net asset worth (i.e. value of all your assets less all liabilities).

See what cold weather does to your brain !! :D

a few important options are missing

a, a shed
b, a dog kennel
c, a taxi for the kids
d, a real luxury that we abuse and take for granted

I voted 100% onwards because my car was everything and I spent more time cleaning/washing it then driving it (replacement car shall be due soon hopefully...)

Well my Merc cost nearly three times what I paid for my house, and no solicitors fees, I still only went for option 2, but I would like to try 5:D :D

hmmm I would like to put 31-50% as I do love cars, but I don't spend the money on them and its < 1% actual value. (Well the houses are all the banks anyway!)

I'm a student... no real income whatsoever (well, fine I do some part time security jobs, but those don't pay much)...

So definetly 100% and more for me! My car needs a sticker "Student Loan" :P

it's more how much your house is worth, less the mortgage

it's what equity you have in the house

I have no debts, I have few assets. I have a house deposit worth about 3x the value of my car and that's basically it atm!

I think a more accurate portrayal of how much of a car person you are is not necessarily financial, but rather psycological. "How much time do you spend thinking of and/or doing car related activities?".

If you were to add up the time spent of this forum, the time spent reading car magazines, the amount of brain time devoted to thinking of cars and car related topics, and also how its tempting to analogise complex work and personal topics in terms of cars and other automotive persuits, then you realise you're very much a car person.

I voted A , but that doesnt mean i don't spend loads of time and effort on the cars tho

its got to be the last one for me!!
